So I got an email at work today about the press release Sony put out this AM. The PSP will be priced at $249.99 in the US when it comes out March 24th. It will come with some game demos a memory stick, a copy of UMD Spiderman 2 and some other throw ins like a case and a power adapter.

Price seems a bit high for my taste, and the fact that the games are priced at $49.99. Whats up with a handheld game costing as much as Halo 2? Thats just not right! Shocked

Well, they're pretty advance handheld games. It's not like it's a simple snes port like on the SP. That said, it is a lot of money.  And I bet many people will buy the DS for the price alone.

Yeah that is.  I'm still going to get one, but I'll wait for the price to drop.

I already got $100 down on one, hoping that they do decide to ship system-only. Nothing's set in stone yet. Lets's see what happens closer to the date.

I plan on getting one still but when is the real question.

I am going to ask for a DS in April for my B-day.

PSP does have a pretty high price point too.
The next home systems are only suppose to be in the $300 i thought...

Keep in mind though that the PSP is not just a handheld console, it's a total multimedia tool. It plays movies and music right out of the box so naturally Sony will put a higher asking price on it. I think the idea with the PSP isn't just to target gamers. Time will tell.

It is a more versital DS basically.
But as said many times before it ha a shit battery life.
I can see new batteries being made though that way people will be able to play longer.

Just like bigger mem cards they will sell better batteries. Or 3rd party ones might pop up.

well, i have mine preordred

i dont understand why people are bitching about the price....for everything you get with the value pack, $250 isnt that much at all....and the stuff that it does come with you will need anyway.....why wouldnt you want a case, memory card to save your games, and some slick headphones

chances are if you bought the system by itself (if they do release it that way) then you will still be buying a memory card, thus bringing the price of the system right back up to where it would be if you just would have bought the value pack

I have my own headphones. I take good care of my stuff, without needing a case. And maybe I rather buy a cheap third party memory card instead of sony's expensive as gold one. Or maybe I do want all of it, but I rather shop around for the cheapest parts. I bet you can already get some (second hand) stuff cheaply from japan.

Yeah, and CD-i, 3DO, the Memorex VIS, and Halcyon all did these things too.  That was then and this is now, but as a gamer, I'd much prefer a gaming system and that's it.  If I want a PDA, I'll get a PDA.  I don't need Sony to make a really stripped down version of one for me, because it will have poorer battery life and not be nearly as versatile.  Besides, take a look at the Tapwave Zodiac and the Nokia N-Gage and the Infinium Labs Phantom.  None has Sony's muscle backing it, but all of them are trying to do the same thing Sony wants to do with PSP.  It's a shame that Nintendo is so stupid about their games sometimes, because I really like the way they don't add a bunch of stuff to their consoles that I don't need (because I already have something else that does it better anyway).
