so where does VHS fit in the scheme of things with regards to movie collections?

it's still a current format but rightfully plays second fiddle to DVD. Is VHS even considered collectable? DVD is state of the art but also collectable.

Obsolete video formats like Beta, CED and LaserDisc are considered collectable.

So where does the longest running video format fit in all this?

I've got hundreds of VHS movies and still buy a lot at thrifts, flea markets and discount retailers like Big Lots. I won't buy a VHS movie if I can get it on DVD though. If I find a Beta or LaserDisc that's also available on DVD I will.

Hmmm, thats a good question.  I will buy VHS movies too if they are cheap enough (I have a couple hundred VHS tapes), but I don't watch them that often, nor do I consider myself a collector.  Maybe after VHS falls even further out of favor they will become more collectible.

I don't even like getting VHS from the library. And collecting VHS the way guys collect games? That would be nuts.

Most places you can get VHS for 3 bucks and under, so I usually don't mind picking them up if I see a movie that I think might be kind of good.  Hell, I went to a flea market last summer and picked up the Star Wars Episode 1 special edition with the art book and film cell for $2.  I already had it for DVD, but how can you go wrong with that.

I mostly just buy VHS kids movies for my daughter. I do have a lot of anime on VHS, mostly Dragonball Z. I've grabbed the occasional documentary or sports video. I've recently  bought a 84 Tigers World Series highlights video and a cool documentary on Bo Jackson.

Speaking of The Wizard, does anybody know where I can find a copy of that movie?

I'm still looking for that one too. I found a copy once at a thrift but the condition was frightening. It didn't look playable so I passed on it.

I almost got ahold of one at a flea market, but the lady who was working the booth said she sold the the only copy they had a few minutes before I arrived.  So it goes.

I was lucky enough to buy this movie when it first came out and I still have it.  The sleeve is a little disshevled, but the tape still works.
