How did I miss this game?  I mean, I heard all about it last year, but never heard a thing about it when it came out in (apparently) November of 2004.

Has anyone played it?  I came across a review of the newly-released European version here at the BBC:

http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/technology/4253647.stm

That's what called my attention to the game again.  I just skimmed over the review, but it looks like it is pretty good.  Have any of you played it or seen it?  Any thoughts on the game?

Oh, and I didn't see anywhere....  does the game require a monthly fee to play?  I can't imagine it would be free like Blizzard's other online gaming.

I knew it came out, but apparently they're having allot of server problems, it's been down allot.  I haven't played it but I want to when it is more stable.

Yeah there was a thread about it a little while ago.  I played the US beta solidly for about 2 weeks and now I'm playing retail... even though I never intended to AT ALL.  Let me explain...

About 3 weeks ago I applied to Blizzard/VU Games for a WoW Game Master position in Europe.  They replied saying if I'd heard nothing in a month, I'd been unsuccessful.  Well, on Monday they e-mailed me saying they wanna phone interview me (for 1 hour!) to discuss the position.  If I get through that, I'm off to live in France to be a WoW GM Smiley  So I'm basically playing at the moment in preparation of next week's interview (although they said I wouldn't need to).

Funny how things happen!

And to answer Nep's queries: yes there is a monthly fee (of around £8 over here), and yes it is a very good, immersive game, but only IF you like that kind of thing (spending countless hours inside RPGs and losing track of time!).

My old neighbors are playing this game (they gave up on galaxies) and so far have been happy with it.  The fee afaik is $20 a month, which is very pricey if you ask me, but people are willing to pay it. I've only s%en it live for about three minutes, but it looke like the standard fare as far as games like this go.

The PvP isn't that great either, I much preferred the PvP battle structure in Guild Wars when I was playing the beta of that.  Furthermore, whereas in something like Planetside you actually had to have some aim to be good in battle, in this you don't, but the games are slightly different I guess.

Just curious...  I've been looking forward to Guild Wars coming out for a bit now....  think it should be coming out soon.  Anyway, are you still playing it?  How does it measure up overall to  World of Warcraft?  Which do you prefer?

Maybe I should just open a Guild Wars thread too....  unless one of those exists that I missed as well.

I haven't played Guild Wars since one of the test weekends they did last year.  I found that it was slightly less advanced than WoW in terms of gameplay and UI, though perhaps better for someone looking for a more casual mmorpg experience (rather than the usual level grinding).

Oh and an update on my job, after they were 'impressed' by my phone interview, they've called me to France for a live interview so I'm jetting off there next week!
