Gee, that would be a brilliant idea. Except not.

That thing has always been interesting to me since the first time you showed it to me. It's too bad it didn't get built almost anywhere besides there, because it is a pretty awesome building in my opinion. I really do wonder what will happen to it though. I wonder if it would actually cost more to dismantle than to complete....

Well, the reason it hasn't been build anywhere besides there is because there is no location in the world, save Las Vegas, where a 3000+ room hotel can be economically justified. And most other countries are more concerned with taking care of real issues than building a big-ass hotel.
Aparently it cannot be completed, as the concrete was not good enough. Anyways, its pretty cheap to blow stuff up. This would prolly take the cake as tallest building ever demolished.

Was this posted in jest or are you serious?
I don't want a political debate, but we kinda spawned the UN to begin with, so leaving it wouldn't be a very good idea.

Binladins to build world's tallest building?:
http://wnd.com/news/article.asp?ARTICLE_ID=38413
When complete, the building would have 160 floors (Sears Tower in Chicago has 110).
Its final hight would be 2,312 ft (691 feet taller than Taipai 101, current worlds tallest building, and 249 feet taller than the worlds tallest structure, a TV tower in Fargo ND).
Edit: Aparently the foundation was designed such that it could support a 950 meter tower (3117 feet or .6 miles) if the demand requires it. Currently, the demand form Europe and Asia is enough such that the the building will be at least 800m tall. In other words, freeking huge.

Wow. That building looks incredibly cool, too. Too bad I'll probably never get to see it because of where it is being built.

Well, you can always wait for the next world's tallest to be built. There has to be one planned state side. Chicago cant let it stand for long.

I had never heard about that fire before. At any rate, the article there estimated the total cost of damages at $1,715,000.00 in 1866. I used an online inflation calculator, and that would be $20,101,713.27 in 2003 dollars. That's quite a lot of damage for one fire, especially in 1866 Cincinnati.

Thats not really that much damage considering ot took out an opera house.  The Aronof center cost 82.4 million to build.
If only people still wrote that way; the newspaper would actually be interesting to read.

I guess to really be able to tell how big of a deal that was, you'd have to see how much money was brought in/spent in Cincinnati in 1866 as compared to today. The percentage would be a lot more telling than just a dollar amount.

This one is for 18+ people only. Somebody on another board I sometimes go to posted it.

Yup, that's right. A website devoted to some guys blow up dolls. I didn't enter the site so I can't really tell you what's in there, but I'm sure it's pretty scary.
