Well, it works just fine, but I accidentally hit submit twice.  The internet iis twice as cool when it is free.  I should do this more often for fun.  It would be much better with a command prompt, though.  Netsend, anyone?

Yay for me having 128 bit WEP encryption here! No wardrivers on this little network. I bet though, since I have a high gain antenna, our signal here goes really, really far.

If you log onto your access point you can see how many computer are connected to it.  If you have more connections than computers you may want to change your WEP key or switch channels even.

The speed slow down could just as easily be on the modem end, if you have cable. Otherwise, wireless phone and microwaves are huge souces of interference for wireless networks.

Old people are cheap.  ;-)
And when I was talking about the modem end, I meant the rest of the people on your cable node, which could be a few blocks away depending on how popular cable is in your area.  If eveyone is trying to do something bandwidth intensive, then you may notice slow down.  Just the nature of the technology.

I hate other people in my area.
Sharing what could be bandwidth all to myself.

I got a wireless network card for my laptop yesterday and am back on that same internet connection.  Today we went to the park and the whole way there and back I was checking for wireless connections.  A LARGE percentage of them were not secure.  Even while driving, I was able to connect to several of them briefly, until we got out of range.  With a high-powered receiver, especially in a dense residential neighborhood, one could easily go without actually paying for any internet access.
