After buying a copy of GTA3 for xbox, EB threw in a demo copy of Marvel:Nemesis Rise of the Imperfects. I've been waiting for this title for some time and have been looking forward to a chance to play it.

After taking it home and trying it out, this new fighting game looks and plays AWESOME!

There were only 5 characters on the demo disk (3 of which I haven't figured out how to unlock), of which Spiderman and Johnny Ohm (new character from the comic book series of the same name) are available for immediate play.

Destructable and interactive environments. The possibility for Ring Outs. Appropriately balanced superpowers. As well as standard melee attacks are just some of the features of this title. It'll also have online play!

The finished product will have a total of 18 characters, 10 marvel and 8 Imperfects. The demo video that I let play out after the match listed the marvel heroes as Storm, Thing, Magneto, Spiderman, Wolverine, Daredevil, Elektra, Human Torch, Iron Man and one other that I don't remember.

The graphics look very much like it's straight out of a comic book, but without cell-shading. Sound seemed a bit unfinished, but was acceptable overall. And the camera moved very well to cover the action, zooming in and out appropriately to see the whole field of battle.

There are 2 primary bars, the health bar and the superpower bar, and 1 secondary bar called the "Rage" meter. If you've used up your superpower bar, it will replenish itself over time. With this time, you can still grab and throw objects, evade with basic jumps, and/or initiate melee attacks. With each successful attack, the "Rage" meter builds up over time (kind of like the Gamebreaker in the EA "Street" titles), and when it maxxes out, it seems you have unlimited superpower access for a period of time.

The other cool aspect is that it played out over a total time interval. Which means that you can get in as many rounds as you can within the time limit, but damage inflicted carries over. For example, if Spiderman defeats Johnny Ohm, the amount of damage that Johnny previously did to Spiderman carries over to the next round.

There's no word on whether or not it will have a 4 player option.

I'm definitely getting this one as soon as I can when it comes out.

I think that with only 10 of the 18 characters being marvel, they're probably leaving it open for sequels so they can add other characters later. Cap America I hear will only be available in the PSP version.

Also, there's no Hulk, no Punisher, no Dr.Doom, etc. in the game either. Basically they have a whole Marvel universe to choose from, so they could probably make an annual franchise out of this game.

Phoenix loaned me his demo disk and I tried it out a bit this morning. This looks likes it's going to be a hell of a game. The level on the demo is Spiderman vs some guy called Johnny Ohm on top of the Daily Bugle building. The graphics are nice, it's got a dark gritty look to it. Johnny Ohm flies around in a shower of electrical current that is nicely done.

Some of the fighting actions are cool too. You can pick up and toss around several objects. Spiderman can shoot a web and use it to catapult himself into his opponent. I think I'm gonna grab this one too.

Mortal Combat

For shame... for shame.

Do you guys know if this is at any other stores or is it EB exclusive?

Unfortunately all the real game stores are a decent drive away from me so i can get to them.
EB Games is20-30 minutes away so i won't be going out there to get the demo if they are the only place with it.

trading games to EB or GameStop is a sin, don't you know that they have feelings too.  Marvel looks like a great game but all those other games you traded will miss you, and soon you will miss them too, all of a sudden you will be running all over trying to find copies of your departed games spending more on them then you did originally ooo the humanaty.   But of course this does not apply to sports games yeah trade those.

I did some calculating, and figured that the amount that I spent on the games I traded in was equal to the trade-in value that they gave me to get Marvel Nemesis.

The other thing is that, of the games I traded in, if I wanted to buy them back later, I would only do so if the price was less than the trade in value that I got for them. And since these games were ones that I wasn't getting any use out of, I'd rather trade them in for a game that I will likely get a lot of enjoyable play time from.

So, in other words, I have no regrets.
