@shane- Usually the game ends after 36 races (assuming your 1st in points at the time). It makes you survive several notable tracks from earlier in the game on a higher difficulty. What were your thoughts on the game?

I loved the controls. I think NES racing games play better in a close up view than they do in a full track view like Indy Heat. I had no idea what the things I was running over were doing for a while, so I just raced with turbo and upgraded my engine and tires for the first bit. Suddenly my car type changed between races, and I looked up what caused that. The letters you can pick up spell the game's name, and in the borders of your car info before a race it shows what letters you've picked up already toward a vehicle upgrade. A pretty neat feature of the game.

The levels that use a plane or jet to bomb or shoot you are annoying, as with the jet especially it seems you can't get out of the way in time for the first shot and you lose your place in the race. That would be manageable if it were only in the first lap, but when it happens every lap it's frustrating. It's a bit reminiscent of being in first in Mario Kart and having the second place person always win because someone uses a blue shell on your at the last moment.

Jackal done.

I know I've played this game before, but I'm not sure if I've ever beaten it until now. I really like it. It's a great pick up and play game.

Eliminator Boat Duel done. One of those NES games that's interesting for casual play, but grueling to beat as you have to win 24 1v1 races with only 1 loss. The game definitely has a lot of personality, though.

Haven't been able to play for awhile because of work but now its my vacation and so I had some time to finish of Silkworm.

This game is pretty monotonous the later levels become bullet hells which makes it a little more fun. The bosses are pretty boring except for the last boss.

I'd like to relinquish my hold on "Startropics", please. I haven't been able to get around to it over the last couple months and it definitely isn't looking like I'll be able to get on it any time soon. Thank you.

@Wempster - wicked job on Zelda!! You're absolutely right that those Darknuts are pains in the butt. Glad you persevered and took it down. That also a crazy lucky Ganon fight you had!

@shane- you're solid on that RC Pro Am II run. You more than looped the game.

@Disposed Hero - totally. Jackal is a great little action game for a quick session.

@EZ Racer - couldn't agree more. Game was a pain to beat, but like you said is fun and charming in a casual play.

@Fokakis79 - Wow! I beat Silkworm last year and it gave me a LOT of trouble. I thought it was super hard. Which vehicle did you play with? I kept getting to the final stage with the Helicopter, but could never quite finish it off. I swapped to the Jeep and was able to squeeze out a win though. Found the levels easier with the Jeep, but the bosses easier with the Helicopter.

@Boshamp - no worries, thanks for the effort. I think Bickman2k actually started playing StarTropics on the Switch online app recently so maybe he'll be wiling to take it over for you.

Nice to see you guys taking to the spirit of the month and beating a bunch of racers with me!! I put a ton more time into Michael Andretti's World GP tonight. Got to Level 6 Race 3 tonight. Out of the blue in Level 6 they swapped me to an automatic vehicle to race with. My whole strategy to this point has been to know which gears to downshift to for certain times of corners so I'm having to relearn how to race this late in the game to brake into those corners now. There are lots of spin outs again like when I first started which is pretty frustrating. I looked up how many races are left to do and it's still a lot. Level 6 has 10 races, 7 has 12, 8 has 14 and 9 has 16 freakin races!! After Level 6 I may take a short break to play some other stuff for a bit.

Well, I finished the last climb In ice climber... and it changed over right as I took the pic. I can try and beat it again.. but to be Frank, I'm so done with this game.

lol, no worries, I trust you that it's done. And I agree wholeheartedly. It doesn't hold up like a lot of other early Nintendo games.

@crabmaster, I used the Heli to complete it. It took definitely several tries to do it. Definitely not easy and kinda frustrating at times. I did feel like the game did cut me breaks with hit detection.

Played a bunch more World GP tonight. Was able to get my score high enough that I didn't even have to do the last 2 races and purposefully failed the time trials and just let the CPU duke it out for points in those races. That puts me to Level 7 now. Ugh.

Thought I'd chip in with a couple beats:

Dynowarz: The Destruction of Spondylus
- this one was more of a test of patience than anything else, as most of large mech stretches were basically a war of attrition, with some enemy loops that just didn't pose any sort of danger.  The platforming outside of the "dyno" were the tough parts, with some knockback and tricky timing for platforming - but again, some of the rooms were just a matter of finding that one spot where no enemy could shoot at you and slowly working your way through.  I had a fun enough time going through it, but probably won't go back to it any time soon - took me less than 2 hours to finish, but could probably be done in 1/2 that time without making platforming mistakes.
Gold Medal Challenge '92 - I have huge nostalgia goggles for this one - basically the 1992 Barcelona Summer Olympics.  The thing I like most about this is that as you progress through the events, it takes breaks to check in on the Marathon, which takes place across 6+ segments as though it's being run while all the other events are taking place.
I find the "mash buttons to run faster" while still needing to use the d-pad to 'launch/jump/set jump angle" to be difficult, but I'm the master of the swimming events, which have more of a rhythmic cadence to them.  The game also has a battery backup and will save world records, so your successes can live on into future playthroughs.  will take only an hour to get through and you get 'credits' regardless of your success.

Halfway through Level 8 on Michael Andretti's World GP tonight. Glad to be done with Level 7 and have manual control over my gear shift once again. Because of that 8 is going much faster. I even got a few really lucky races in a row where my rival scored incredibly poorly and in one race didn't even make the qualifying time so he scored 0 for the round. That's gonna give me a big edge late in the level and let me really whiff it on a few races if I need to.

Took the rest of my play time today, but after a bit of trouble on a couple rounds I beat level 8 tonight. That just leaves the final level to beat next session. It's the longest though so it'll likely take me two sessions to finally complete this game.
