Had a happy night tonight. Beat Dr. Chaos and Airwolf is done at last!

Dr. Chaos is a weird game. You have a mansion you can explore side scrolling style, but once you enter rooms you are first person view with text options to open, hit, get and go. These rooms link to other rooms in the mansion which you use to travel to places that you can't simply walk to. In these rooms you also get all your health and weapon drops. After you find a warp zone in these rooms you are teleported to a side scrolling area with a boss at the end. The bosses award you with special items and health upgrades as well as each one drops a piece of a special gun you need to defeat the final boss with. It's a neat idea, but it's kind of a mess of a game. It's got terrible hit detection, music, controls, enemy movements, and level design.

After many many hours sunk into Airwolf I was finally able to get it to loop tonight. Had one of those runs where I was just in the zone and everything came together. Decided to keep playing past the loop to see how far I could go and I made it to Mission 27 before dying. This is one of the more playable flight sim games on the system, but it's still not very fun.

That puts me at 52 games in 40 days now.

Was just updating my personal list of NES game completions and realized I just hit a cool milestone. There are less than 200 games I need to beat on the system now!

Also wanted to run something by you guys. Since our list is getting smaller and smaller I think at the end of August it would be a good idea to drop the claim system and just have anyone beat any game they can at that point so we aren't holding someone back from helping us out. If you're playing a long game like an RPG or Strategy game I'd still post about your progress in here and I doubt anyone would step on your feet and try and beat it from under you.

Good work on the completions Crabby. You're knocking it out of the park!

I don't know about dropping the claim system altogether. I think theres definitely some old claims on the list that should maybe be removed unless people can confirm they are still working on them

I'm kind of in agreement with Schlibby. Maybe give August as a reclaim month, and as of September all claims prior to August are dropped.

I also think it might be good to have everyone go through what's left and list what they have personal access to.

Speaking of claims, I plan to continue working on Adventures of Lolo 3. Now that I've moved, and have begun unpacking/connecting consoles, I'm going to jump back in. I'm over halfway done, so it'd be a shame to have to relinquish that claim, just saying.

I really like that idea of compiling lists of what games each player has available from what we have left. I'm gonna head out of town once again for a few days on tomorrow so when I get home maybe I'll bug you guys about that.

I was literally posting to give up and pass Mendel Palace to someone else, but I finished the "last" castle to find there is another castle!  I am on the eighth level (out of ten), so I am just going to tough it out.  I have to say out of the games I have played for this challenge, this is the only one where the game is fun enough to keep me coming back not out of determination to kill the stupid game, but because the game is fun.

So close now, just two more levels!

Mendel Palace is in the bag!  Such a fun, well made game, I guess it was no surprise to see "Game Freak" as the dev.  Anyone who has any interest in an action-puzzler should check this one out.  I didn't play it back in the day (I think), but I do remember the commercial pretty well:

Well, I guess I will jump on Conquest of the Crystal Palace, mainly because I have beat it before and am reasonably sure I can do it again.

Nice job bomba! That's one I'd like to play before too long as well. Never seen that commercial either. That probably would have sold the game to me as a kid, pretty awesome.

Rainbow Islands is done, at least to the bad ending. I probably won't revisit this one, which is sad because there are so many good ideas, but incosistency with controls and level imbalance really holds this back from being the game it could have been. Without spoiling it, level 5 and 7 were welcome additions to the game, partly because of what they based those levels on, but the rest of game is filled with frustrating moments. I felt like I took way more unjustified deaths on this than I did on The Immortal, a game notorious for that element.

RBI Baseball done. I'm sure I'm like many others, but this game brings back memories of going to the local pizza hut and playing it on the arcade. It's a solid baseball title, but the fielding is really slow, so sometimes the scores look more like a football game.

Done with Conquest of the Crystal Palace.  Awesome game, and an easy recommendation to action platforming fans.  It may seem a little cheap and difficult at first, but once you learn the way the character moves and the items, it is easy (or maybe just fun).  There are two tips I would like to give to those that do decide to give this game a try:

1. You can switch weapons (and summon your dog) by holding down and pressing the A button (to move hand thingie) and letting go to select.

2. The protagonist has a high jump, but once you attack in air he plummets.

Think I will play Elevator Action next.  Not the best port by a long shot (I think the GB is my fav), but somebody's gotta do it.

If Metroid gets freed up, I've already played through it this year. I play it at least once every year, along with most of the other Metroid games.

Man, that was so much easier and faster to upload. Kid Icarus and Wario's Woods down!

I'd like to claim "Solomon's Key" next, I am itching to play "Fire 'N Ice" since I grew up with that one and never beat it, but I might as well play the first game first. I've never played "Solomon's Key" before, so it should be a good experience!

Done with Elevator Action.  Game is a cakewalk until you begin stage four, then it becomes a hilarious machinegun-style shootout that is darn near impossible.  It's all down to staying frosty and probability.  I still don't know how I made it down that stupid building, but I did.

Bad Dudes next.  Can't believe nobody claimed this yet.
