If you buy EU SMS games you can play them on the NTSC console.

Yes.  Although folks may be wondering about PAL and NTSC definitions, there
appears to be only some minor problems playing European games, and only
with a small minority of carts:

If you want to play a EU system in the US i think all you need would be a power and video converter due to the difference in plugs.

And your tv must be able to handle a PAL signal.

If I've got a regular USA bought Sony HDTV, would I need to purchase a PAL to NTSC converter to use the EU SMS in USA?

Why do you want to play a EU SMS so bad? A US SMS would work fine. I don't think any of teh games are region protected.

And nice to hear we have another HDTV person on the boards.

It's not that I need it THAT badly.  But the SMS I had hooked up to the TV has broken, and I have a SMS Generation 1 EU Boxed and SMS Generation 2 EU Boxed in storage, I'm wondering if it's worth taking one out of storage (and a box) or if I should just pick up another used USA SMS.

I just got a cheap copy of Alex Kidd in Shinobi World, and I wanted to check it out!

I did notice lots of places sell PAL to NTSC converters, it might be nice to have one of those anyway if they work ok.

Thanks for all the replies, this is an awesome site.

Cool.  Yeah, I'd buy just the deck if you had an extra one.

I'd be surprised if you had to. Just give it a try Smiley.
