The high school I graduated from in 2003 just won its first state football championship, completing a perfect 15-0 season.  I was at the game with fellow board members and alumni TraderJake and St0rmTK421 on Saturday to see the win.  We had a four hour drive to Canton (home of the pro football hall of fame) for the game, while the opposing team (Massilon) had about a ten minute drive.  Despite the near home-field advantage they had, and even with the bitter cold, our team brought a good crowd.   It was a crazy fun game, despite the referees being the worst I have ever seen in any football game, on any level.

Not that many of you care, but it's great to see my alma mater take home their first state football championship, especially considering that Ohio is one of the top states in the nation for prep football.  This makes four consecutive years that a Cincinnati team has taken home the trophy in Ohio.  It's the first time in St. Xavier's 175 years of existence.

Last week St. X. was ranked #9 nationally.  Hopefully the win will move them up a bit, but regardless, that ranking is pretty darn impressive.

Nice to finally have one of those under out belts.  Now if only the swim team would get their butts in gear. (j/k)

Aparently we now have the most state titles of any high school in Ohio, if my roomate is to be trusted.

Great news!

Yeah, Eddie or Dave told me before the game that this would be the case if we won.  We figured if they lost, the swim team would set that record for us in the spring anyway, but I'm glad the football team did it first.

What amazing game, so many people there, such a thrilling and amazing conclusion, terrible refs. Without these three aspects, it just would not be an X game. After the sad loss in 2001, this is a great way to finish off the season four years later. Hats off to the coach and players, who the vast majority of you do not know.

It was 2001 that we went to state and lost.  Elder won it in 2002 & 2003, and Colerain won in 2004.

I played on a State Champion HS football team my senior year. It is a pretty awesome experience. I always wished there was some way for the top team(s) in the state to compete nationally. Those are some pretty good pictures of the game by the way, wish the ones of my game were that good.

High school football, let alone GCL football, is a huge deal in Cincinnati. On the totem pole of sports, high school football probably is more popular than local college ball, and probably out flanks any minor league sports team in the city. Cincinnati is just an interesting city when it comes for it affinity to high school sports, and that is why you see such nice photos of any state championship football game which has a Cincinnati area D1 team in it.
