I hope you drive off a cliff and die. Wink

I haven't heard anything about a set price yet but even at $500 big freakin deal. It has graphics abilities that'd cost 1000$ in video cards, has a killer processor, is completely backwards compatible, you can use your old save games, it supports seven bluetooth wireless controllers, uses blue ray discs which are a bazillion times better than your mom, it can play any type of disc you throw at it, it saves babies, it eats Nazi's, and is an all around good guy.

So what?  In my opinion, we hit the peak of those capabilities actually being relevant to games with the Dreamcast.  Since then, everything looks pretty much the same to me - time to start focussing on GAMEPLAY again.  I still play the original Galaga and SMB 1 games more than any other game.

I'm pulling for the Revolution because it's innovative and seems cool.  PS3/XBox 360?  It's been done before.

Maybe it gives Sony more time to get its act together after the rootkit fiasco.

If they want the discs to only play on one machine, what happens when you have to replace your machine for whatever reason and the games you paid Sony for don't work anymore?

I guess we'll know more in the future. Meanwhile, the first Blu-Ray disc drive for PC's comes out in June from Pioneer. Maybe some industrious people will start hacking the PS3 early.

It is a huge deal. Given a choice between feeding his family and getting a PS3, I am sure that Mr. Blue Collar Man will choose the former. With a price at $500 dollars, you are destined to alienate a large group of consumers who cannot afford to own something that expensive.

Mr. Blue Collar Worker is a huge, huge demographic, and even with kickass games people are going to have to make a choice between what is more important, a PS3 or their basic needs.

$500 dollars is not pocket change, and it requires a large sacrifice for people of many demographics. For some people it is an entire month of rent, or utilities. It's sizeable, and I forsee people needing to make a deep reflection about this system should the price be as much as they are projecting it to be.

70$s per game too don't forget.

That is currently more than i have ever spent on 1 game.
I think only by 5$s though... maybe 10.

Don't try the Mr. Blue Collar man argument. If that's true than Mr. Blue Collar Man has been screwed with system prices since forever.

I think that video games sell mostly to kids who save up their money. The rest is stupid parents who spend insane amounts of moolah so that Little Timmy gets a nice present under the tree. I mean, somebody out there was spending 2000 dollars a pop for 360s on e-bay. People spend thousands on PC rigs. Many of you guys spend who knows what collecting. Gaming is popular, sure Odon is right that graphics don't make the good game, but they DO make it awesome. And people like awesome. We live in a society where we have to live boring repetitive lives, video games are the only escape some people have. Blah blah blah. Series of scattered thoughts.

I could sit here forever but I'm not going to.

Considering the price the Revolution is coming out with, I'd say it's a very big deal indeed.  Personally, I've NEVER bought any console within the first 2 years it was released.  Not a single one.  I have many reasons for doing this, but the rediculous prices consoles go for at release is the main one.  I am considering getting a Revolution within the first year simply because there are indicators it will be dirt cheap compared to the PS3 and 360.

This argument is all very interesting, but I don't think it's going to matter at all. Despite the rumors of a $500 price tag, the PS3 will almost definitely cost $399 when it comes out. Why? Because that's what the competition's machine costs.
Speaking of the competition's machine, people were saying the 360 would be $500 before it came out too. I'm pretty sure I remember similar stories about PS2 as well. It's just crap started by the opposing company's fanboys.

I thought I posted this.
http://www.gamespot.com/n...5/06/28/news_6128295.html

About how it costs more to make the system than what they charge for it. Kinda interesting, it's a bit old.

Almost all systems are sold for a loss at launch. Look at the X-Box, they lost sooooo much money on each X-Box sale, however, it did what Microsoft wanted it to do -- it got them in the market. I honestly think it will cost more than $494 to make with all the features they have in the system it just seems destined to cost more to make. I'm probably wrong, and I have a biased viewpoint though, so keep that in mind.
