I think Battletoads is pretty tough. I'm sure it's not impossible, but I've always played it with 2-player mode and never managed to beat it.

I picked TMNT.  I remember having to keep going back just to get my life up so I would be at full life (hopefully) when I made it to Shredder.  And than the bastard would kill me every time.  I did finally beat him but man that game was the mother bitch of all games.  I also remember how hard it was to beat Mike Tyson.  I never did do it without an emulator.  And than Fester's Quest!! That was a bitch of a game!  I did beat the game but you had to do it in one sitting.  I think it took me 4-6 hours to beat that mother fucking hard ass game!  Boy was it fun, though!

I agree, I used to beat every game I owned when I was a kid. I never beat Kid Icarus.... EVER!!!!! Sad

The rest of the games on this list are childs play compared to Icarus Wink

Well since I'm late to the party, I voted for Punchout, but would have suggested King's Knight by Square.  I couldn't make it through the characters first stage without them dying.  I still periodically try and fail miserably.  Silver Surfer is also a f***** hard game that I couldn't complete a stage for.
