Now, maybe I'm doing something wrong, but my scanner also saves everything to a .tif file.  What I did was after I edited the image, I just saved the file name as .jpg from .tif in the image editor.  Couldn't you just re-save all of your files with .jpg to change the format?

What type of scanner is it?   Try going to the manufacturers website, they might have all of the stuff you need for download there.
