LOS ANGELES, California (Hollywood Reporter) -- Mel Brooks is developing an animated TV series based on his comedy feature "Spaceballs."

Like the 1987 movie, which parodied well-known science-fiction movies, "Spaceballs: The Animated Series" will spoof current blockbusters as well as every genre of entertainment from movies and reality TV to culture and politics.

It is set to debut on cable network G4 in fall 2007. Production has already started on an initial batch of 13 episodes.

Brooks, who will voice two characters in the show, co-wrote the pilot with longtime collaborator Thomas Meehan, who will oversee all writing for the series.

I can't fucking wait, I hate G4, but I still can't wait.

That is sweet.  I love Spaceballs.  That movie is so funny.  Now if I could only get over hating G4...

Not seen this yet, but I don't have high hopes. Spaceballs the movie is a classic to me, but I think in recent years the art of making a spoof that is actually funny has been lost and replaced with vague attempts based on random pop-culture references (hint: just because something is in the paper doesn't mean it's a source of humour) and poop/boobie/Bush-jokes.

Talk about dredging up an old thread from the depths!

You can watch all 13 episodes of this ill-fated series on YouTube:

Please tell me youve seen the old 90s X-Men animated series. That was the shiznit back in the day, and chances are someones made a DVD out of them by now.

They sure have; head on over to Amazon and see for yourself.

BTW if you ever feel like geezing to your childhood faves, feel free to hang out at the "Remember When..." forum:

It's got quite a bit of 1980s nostalgia, so some 1990s nostalgia would be welcome there to break up the monotony.
