Doom 3 especially with 5.1, not so much the enviroment or ambience like Silent Hill, but the pop up right in front of you or behind you kind.

*cough* Tomb Raider 1. paranoid

When I was twelve, I got up to the T-Rex bit and it scared the crap out of me. I didn't play any more "scary" games until I was about sixteen.

I suppose Half Life 2 would be the next game that scared me because of the suspense and sudden attacks in Ravenholm. I have too many bad things associated with Half Life 2, so I find it impossible to play now.

I'd have to say that I haven't played most of those games, but agree with Tan that Doom 3 was freakish...jump outta nowhere kinda scary.

The game D scared me a bit, too, as did Alone in the Dark when I was much younger.

Dino Crisis, Res Evil, Hexen, Silent Hill, Fatal Frame all got me to jump at one point or another
I watched my dad and his GF play them when i was younger so by the time i played them generally i knew what was coming.

Doom was way creepier on PC IMO.

I chose Res Evil, I remember the first few times I played Res 2 it creeped me out.

But the Thief series always did a number on me. With zombies and stuff just popping out of no where. Lots of deep dark places which you had to hide in so you didn't get caught, a lurking evil always overshadowing the story, and I always played with the volume cranked so I could hear baddies approaching.

i chose other due to three games:
1. Illbleed (dreamcast) this game was just plane creepy.
2. D2 (dreamcast) had me on the edge of my seat almost thrughout.
3: Parasite Eve (playstation) had so good scares like when the dinosaur came through the window in the museum (if i remember right, its been a while since i played it). And was also based on a japanese horror movie.

You're my hero. Vanilla Ice RULES! I can't believe that there is another SERIOUS Vanilla Ice fan on this site. The special edition DVD should be called "Cool As Ice: Drop That Zero Edition".

Blue Stinger.
Because I decided to play it at 2:00 AM in the dark.  A mistake.

Dr Jeckel and Mr Hyde (NES)

not becuase of anything in the game presentation, but the  unresponsive controls and terribly slow-paced gameplay make me have nightmares after playing it for more than a couple of minutes

This was a tough one.  Fatal Frame literally scared the shit out of me.  But like Tynstar says the part in RE where the dogs jumped out of the window... scared the living bejesus out of me!
