what game soundtrack(s) is your favorite(s)? figured this would make a good discussion. ninja

i have a few favorites....

i like the soundtracks to the gauntlet games. they were good background tunes. also the music for bard's tale on ps2/xbox is time fitting and helps that surrealism of really getting into a game. there are probally a few others that have slipped my mind, i'll add them later.

You're my hero. Vanilla Ice RULES! I can't believe that there is another SERIOUS Vanilla Ice fan on this site. The special edition DVD should be called "Cool As Ice: Drop That Zero Edition".

The Neverhood! No game soundtrack has ever come close to matching its brilliance. What other game has mainly acoustic guitar and mumbled, unintelligible vocals? None. And it all fits in well to the clay environment of the game.

Skullmonkeys. Another great Terry Scott Taylor soundtrack. The bonus room song is the funniest song ever put into a video game.

Grim Fandango. Jazz crossed with traditional Mexican music. It's very good stuff.

Mario Bros. One of the most memorable soundtracks ever.

Legend Of Zelda. Also very memorable.

Thrasher: Skate And Destroy. Greatest licensed soundtrack ever. It's got some of the best old-school rap there is.

KOTOR 1 and 2.
Halo 1 and 2. (and I like what I've heard of Halo 3 thus far).
Jade Empire.
Fable.
Ico (probably the most atmospherically-appropriate soundtrack I've experienced in a game thus far).

I agree. 80's pop kicks much ass. Wink The tunes on Tony Hawk 2 were good too if I remember.

Zelda a link to the past has to be up there for orginal video game sound tracks though.

Songs from the Ultima series, i.e. Stones.  The Dragon Edition of Ultima IX: Ascension included a music CD with all the Ultima soundtracks, which was great.

I once again am going to type my standard answer: Baldur's Gate. But Tomb Raider 3 also had some great tunes. It was mostly silent, but when something was going on, it started playing. Very well timed and very fitting.

On another note, whenever I feel like a nerd, I think of people who listen to cd's with videogame soundtracks and I feel cool again.

Incredible Crisis (PSX) - Tokyo Ska Paradise Orchestra performs some great tunes that fit perfectly with this style of game.

Yo Noid! (NES) - had some catchy tunes for a NES game.

And I have to nominate Tony Hawk Underground because my roomate is on the soundtrack.
