I think the people who broke the straps weren't just playing it, they were living it.

Really it's the fault of both the users for ignoring the warnings and instructions and Nintendo for marketing the Wii with images of exagerated body movements and not taking the strap design seriously enough.

Yeah, my brother broke his strap, so I'm taking advantage of this recall.

What do you have to do to participate in this?

Own a Wii, you can ask for up to 4 straps.

Do they just mail them to you?

you have to design products with the lowest common denominator in mind, a thicker strap really isnt going to cut much into nintendos profits, and frankly, they are probably getting a lot of free press explaining how the wii is different from other game consoles

No. It's Nintendo's fault for not designing it to be idiot proof, and this is so wide spread it sounds like it isn't just idiots.
But in any case remember: the customer is always right, even if they are dumb-asses.

Oh I don't know, there are a lot of idiots out there
But yeah, they should of intentionally gotten some of the most aggressive twits they could roundup to really put the system through it's paces so they know it'll be safe for all especially since they aim the system for all ages. I know BOTH my younger brothers will be added to the list of people that break their Wii strap if they had a Wii.

well i think you have to be a totally dumbarse to brake the strap as most game don even take that much Wiimote movement to get make a game work.
The strap connector maybe a bit thin but its not that, i think its just another case of someone heard that they could brake and they had to see if they could brake theres.

You're right. Nintendo forgot to design the straps for Non-Gamers. Non-Gamers will play differently from gamers, so much so that they are absolutely engrossed in the experience, totally forgetting that it is a game, and at the same time possibly pushing the strap past its maximum strength.
