We've finally rolled out our SQL-based collection system.  The new system should be faster than the previous system and will be more friendly towards future database expansion.

A few new minor features have been added:
- Hardware/Software dropdown menu
- Sort by Hardware/Software in stats
- View all page to view your whole collection

The first time you use the new system it may take a while to transfer your collection over.  After the first page load, it should run quicker and you should be ready to go!  Please post any bugs in this thread.  Enjoy!

Is it in the works or does the new system make it so when you add Hardware it doesn't add it to you total software numbers?  You know what I mean?  Having seperate Hardware and Software numbers, than have a total number of Software and Hardware.

The only way I know how to do that requires a filesort, which would slow down the system, so it was not added in.  Unless I can find another way to do it, I'm afraid that feature won't be added in.

Sweet; I like the "view all" button. Smiley I already had my Hardware and Systems in separate folders, though. ...So yeah.

I agree with shaggy's inquiry, but I'm fine if there are other reasons behind the combined stats.  Anyways, the new collection system seems to run slick, and I'm so glad I can just look at all the titles instead of guessing a number and paging through dictionary-style through the collection pages.  Thank you very much!

Is it in the works or does the new system make it so when you add Hardware it doesn't add it to you total software numbers?  You know what I mean?  Having seperate Hardware and Software numbers, than have a total number of Software and Hardware.

It would be nice to set this up similar to how the submissions are set up, as in Hardware and Software being two completely different things.

Instead of the "Add Games" link, there could be an "Add Software" and "Add Hardware" link, and keep them in two completely different folders automatically instead of bunching everything together in one folder like it does now. That way it would atleast just count games ONLY in the total count. ...  The "Add Games" icon probably should be changed now anyway, because it's become obsolete, as we could be adding hardware now, and not just a game.

It's a bummer that there's really no way to seperate the hardware and software without potential lag, but the option to show every game in your collection on one page is a sweet addition, and almost makes up for it.

Remember you can set up a hardware folder and move your hardware into that folder so you can get a software only count.

Yeah, that's what I did with mine. I made three folders., one for consoles, one for controllers and accesories, and one for game enhancers and demos...   What I'm saying is that it should automatically put hardware into a different folder when it's added, for the people that haven't took the time to make a specific folder exclusively for their hardware...  that way there would be a games ONLY count in the all collections section. If I didn't seperate all of my consoles and accessories into a different folder, I would have well over 100 items in my collection that weren't even games. Alot of them would be things like AC Adapters, and RF Switches, which I really don't think should be mixed in with the total count.

It kind of takes away the whole comeptition thing when you look at a persons profile that has more games than you, only to find out that they have like 200 consoles, controllers, memory cards, AC adapters , and other stuff added to their total count.

Just FYI, it was never intended to be a competition.  I just sorted by games in collection because it seemed to be the most logical way to sort, have the larger collections up front.  I could have easily made it default to alphabetically.  I kinda figured some people wanted the separation so they could move up on the list Smiley

Anyways, I found an alternate way to show all collections where you can decide what you want the folder count numbers to be.  Check for the folder count links on the right hand side.  If this seems like what you are looking for, I can add it into the current version.

Sweetness! Yeah, that's pretty much what I was talking about. That'll work out nicely.   ...Now I've got to submit some more of my Hardware, so I won't be so close to the bottom. Tongue

Nice work.

I ran into a small hiccup when I was trying to add my TG-16 console to my collection. I was using the drop down menu from the search results page. I selected "Add to collection",and it locked up.  However, if you bring up the consoles info page http://www.rfgeneration.c...fo.php?ID=U-039-H-00010-A , and select add to collection from that page it works fine.

I found out it locks up like this with all of the hardware entries.

Thanks for the bug report.  It should be fixed now.  Let me know if it's still happening.
