I'd rather have their "funky ass" games than Xbox type games, but that's me.

Tynstar, VGChartz (I hate that new name too, used to be VGCharts.org) gets their US data from NPD and I'm not sure about the Japanese data. However, I'll guess it's from Media Create or something like that.

So what Japan is not the center of the gaming universe anymore. They don't want the Xbox type games and I don't want their funky ass games.

VGchartz has a bad reputation for inaccuracy and unprofessional conduct. They'll pretty much use numbers from whatever source they can scrounge up. I wouldn't back anything up with info like that regardless of the system or game, there's always that seed of doubt. That's why no one has attempted this before. It's rough and shaky at best.
