They moved on to create Rock Band. I really, honestly could care less about Guitar Hero 3, I want Rock Band, now.

I'd like to be optimistic about both but I think I really have to wait and see. Since the 2 were both bought out and divided it's pretty much at square one again.

Harmonix (Rockband) doesn't have access to the Guitar Hero code anymore so it has to be built from the ground up and different than previous games and GH3. Neversoft (Guitar Hero 3) who although have access to the code hasn't made one before and will try to make it as different as possible. That and Activision and EA both being involved doesn't fill me with confidance either.

The latest vids of GH3 aren't too shit hot either, the vid for competitive mode looks aggravating with shaking tabs screens and interference. Rock band hasn't even released vids yet for some reason, makes me wonder how far along they are or confidant.

But being such a big fan of the series I'll still hold out hope and wait and see. I'd love to have an awesome Drum peripheral and songs to go with it. If not I've still got GH 1, 2 and Encore which by then I'll still be playing. Smiley

I gave that list a good read over. As a game it seems almost too hard to believe it will be as good as it sounds in theory. The drums idea sounds fantastic, exactly what I would want, but I'm not sure if I'm crazy about the dual sets of frets on the guitars, i kinda don't see the point really. It is nice that they will be bigger guitars as well. Shipping real wooden drumsticks with the set means anyone will be able to go to a music store and handpick a set of their own preference because they'll work as well.

One thing I knew since I found out EA would be behind it is with resources like they have the song list will be phenominal. No doubt a lot of master tracks just like that who one listed. Let's just hope unlike most turds EA stamps there name on this one will be an exception. Here's 4 tracks listed so far:

Weezer - Say It Ain't So - Original Master Track
Black Sabbath - Paranoid - Original Master Track
The Who - Won't Get Fooled Again - Original Master Track
Nirvana - In Bloom - Original Master Track

@phoenix1967 - I'm not saying GHIII will necessarily be a bad game, I'm saying I have my doubts that they could raise the bar on their first try, but I would like to be pleasantly surprised. The videos I have seen so far indicate it feels and plays quite differently and impressions left on pre-viewers are a bit uncertain right now.

@Tan, the comment was directed at Shimra. Looks like we both posted about the same time. Cool

I do agree with your impression of the battle mode...I like the level-up "distractor", but the shaking/vibration and flip-mode seems to be a waste. The single player vids I've seen look true to the GH franchise, though. And they've got a much higher percentage of master tracks this time out (so far). So we'll see.

As far as Activision and EA. Activision published GH2 for the 360 and it turned out great! I'm hoping their involvement in GH3 continues that trend. I share your concerns about EA, though. Every now and then, though, they do start a franchise right (i.e. Burnout).

By the way, anyone know which side Red Octane is on?

GH2 was finished by the time Activision bought Red Octane, so it was easy to port it to the 360 and claim credit. GH80's is still a Harmonix/Red Octane game as well, so III will be the first Activision will have input into.

As far as EA, well we'll have to wait and see. They're more like King Feces than King Midas for series they buy. They didn't start the Burnout franchise, Akklaim did. They bought it a couple of months before Burnout 3 came out. If Akklaim had of held on for a while longer the success of Burnout 3 would've saved their ass. As with most of EA's dealings, they see something good, buy it and call it their own.

Westwood, Origin Systems, Jamdat, Criterion, DICE, Maxis, Bullfrog, possibly Ubisoft anyone? LOL I'm sure I missed a few.

Don't be knocking Acclaim. They've done some good games.

There were talks about EA possibly buying them out about 2 years ago, I think?

Anyway, recently reported in 1up.com or teamxbox, I saw something to the effect that Ubisoft was "considering" a possible merger with EA. It's all about the $$$...

EA already owns 20% of Ubisoft as it is, all they'd need to do is buy enough for a controlling interest and that'll be that. There would be no merger, Ubisoft would be swallowed as a subsidiary.

If EA get's their hands on Some of Ubi's best series they'll never recover from it.
