May 23 was Sonic's 16th birthday birthday

Any thoughts?

I know we have members who are actually younger than this gaming icon.  Shocked

Classic Sonic games on the Sega Genesis were great! I haven't played many of the newer Sonic games,, but maybe you have an opinion on them?

Hard to believe its been that many years since sonic arrived.  I remember being envious of a friend of mine for getting a genesis for christmas.  My "big gift" was a high powered pellet gun from my parent's.  I still recall going over there and firing up sonic the hedgehog and having my mouth hang open for several minutes while playing it.  Long live Sonic the Hedgehog.

I recall enjoying the Sonic games on the Genny as well.

Too bad the franchise "jumped the shark" long ago.

You know, they really should go back to it's 2D roots. I mean, look how well the Paper Mario games are doing.

I'd love to see that Sonic RPG game come out that's being rumored to be in the works from Bioware.

The Sonic games for both the GBA and the DS are great games and among the best of the franchise. Most people just don't take their handhelds seriously enough to recognize that.

Stick any of those Sonic Advance games into a GBA player on the Gamecube and you'd be surprised how refreshing they are. Think of it as the equivalent of NSMB for the DS, in that it's an original take on a classic game. Except in this case it's actually a challenge.

Sonic hasn't aged well for being 16. If Sonic was a woman... well, we won't go there.

You know if that high powered pellet gun that you speak of is a really good one such as a Beeman or Avanti then it cost your folks a lot more than a Sega Genesis would've. In fact if that's the case I'll trade you a Genny for it right now. And I'll even throw in a Sonic cart.  Wink
It does seem odd that it's been so long since Sonic's inception. Then again I feel that way when I think of my Atari 2600 too.

Wow, we really need a more friendly watermarking system  Roll Eyes
Perhaps a little more like Moby Games so when you see the covers in Google image search, they look like just what you want, then upon closer inspection you see the water mark. It may boost traffic that way  Wink

I use to love playing Sonic on my Master System, and then on the MegaDrive once I finally upgraded
Playing Sonic 3 + Sonic & Knuckles all the way through with all the characters and all the emeralds to see the hyper endings is still one of my fondest gaming memories  Cheesy.

This last weekend, Phantasy Star Universe (a game I play) celebrated Sonic by having it's players wish Sonic a "Happy Birthday".

http://www.phantasystarun....com/community_events.php

They even had a few GM's(gamemasters) running around looking like Sonic and Tails handing out prizes.

The 3D Sonic games were awful. It's too bad the newer systems (other than the handhelds) don't offer much in the way of 2D action/adventure or platform games.
