David Jaffes recently stated he is leaving Sony to create an independant company.  Was this a good idea on his part?

I think it's great for him as long as he plays his cards right.  A 3 game deal with Sony will be done in a couple years and he'll have the ability to release his stuff for any system then.  What he does for Sony will be part of the interest, but what he holds back from Sony will be the stuff to watch for.

I said yes, but it doesn't really matter.  The studio has signed a three game contract with Sony, and all team members signing up have had good relations with Sony in the past.

laugh  ...time will tell on that.

Who is David Jaffes? .

Creator of God of War.

I think his independant company will do well. In an interview he gave at gametrailers, he seemed more focused on smaller games (i.e. Calling All Cars) at this stage in his life. I think that after his obligations to Sony are done, he may get the itch to make a new epic IP; and hopefully, for multiplatform. The guy is a perfectionist. So whatever he makes, he's not likely to make something that lets his name go to crap.

@Shaggy, I was beginning to wonder what happened to ya... Cool

David Jaffe is as independant from Sony as Retro Studios is from Nintendo when it all boils down. But at least we're getting a Twisted Metal out of the deal.

Maybe he left a sinking ship.
In that respect I think he made the right decision. At least this way he has hit the ground running, so even if Sony die from the video game scene and everyone is forced to go their own ways he's already got a head start on them and an opportunity to make a name for himself on the rival platforms he'll have to develop for in this event.
