Well if SMAS doesn't count, I guess I have to say Super Mario Brothers 3. Close would be Super Metroid, Chrono Trigger and one of these Final Fantasys (VI, VII, X).

Super Mario All Stars + World.  Smiley  Sonic Mega Collection Plus...  PS Doom...  Tempest 2000...  F-Zero GX...  Tiger Woods 2005...  Wipeout...  Gran Turismo 4...  Oops, that's more than 1.  Tongue

I really played a LOT of Tiger '05 in college. What a great game that was.

Yep, unfortunately I have the Gamecube version which is 2 discs, and you have to switch them quite often.  It sucks!  I'm gonna sell it and get the PS2 version lol.

Imo, no game collection is complete without a copy of Guitar Hero (1, 2, or 3). Thanks to Den for introducing me to the game.

Baldur's Gate for the pc of course. It is also the best game and if you only have one game, it might as well be the best.

No collection is complete without Tetris, no really think about it.
I'll also second FF7, and add Snatcher to the mix.

Actually Streets of Rage 2 was mind blowing when it debuted. It was just such a huge leap ahead of the original in every aspect possible, and will normally always be in any top 100 games list.

Few games match music to gameplay as well as that one does.

Every Video Game Collection should have Tetris in it.
It's a classic that is different every time you play it, plus the kick ass music gets stuck in your head.
