So, the game has been out for almost a month now. What do you, WoW players, think of this new expansion? Is it worth the purchase or is Blizzard milking the franchise?

I think it looks alright, there's a lot of new content so the hardcore gamers will be busy for atleast a few weeks. The expansion lacks material for newer players, though.

GT seemed to like it:

In case anyone wonders how popular WoW still is, here's an impressive quote:
Quote from: Wrath of the Lich King on Wikipedia
Wrath of the Lich King was released on November 13, 2008, selling 2.8 million copies within the first 24 hours of availability. This makes it the fastest selling computer game of all time, beating the record set by the previous World of Warcraft expansion The Burning Crusade, which sold 2.4 million within its first 24 hours.

Yes, and I'm past any real urges to play. Only reason for me to go back is sheer boredom, and I'm plenty occupied at the moment.

Ah, well then it sounds you're better off not playing it then. Smiley

I wouldn't say there is nothing for new players in the expansion.  The expansion made it much, much easier to level to 70.  Having just played a toon from 63-70, I would say that it is roughly a factor of 1/4.  (Granted, this happens even if you don't buy the expansion... but it was a change from version 2.x to 3.x)  Also, the Death Knight class is the most fun I have had playing the game.  I see some real potential in the first hero class for WoW.  It has made WoW fun again.  The new environments are much more detailed than the older areas.  In the few parts I have been to so far, it is quite beautiful.  The Blizzard artists really know how to make a good looking game world.

Oh I know there's new content, and that's what tempts me mostly (aside from the adamant pesterings of my old guildies) to return. I quit because I had done everything millions of times...and now there's more...

But you haven't played the starting sequence for Death Knights, which is what WoW should have been from the start.  Play it.

God forgive me I started playing again. The new zones are pretty neat, haven't tried a DK yet, want to hit 80 first. 73 right now, my 70 epics are allowing me to zoom through the new content. According to my guildies it should last me until level 77-78, which is sweet. I must admit I really hate leveling, I was at endgame for so long that I can't hardly stand not being one of the best...

If playing WoW is what you really want to do, I don't see why you shouldn't.

Atleast you can say you tried to quit. Smiley
