Whenever something new is announced people will think it'll suck. A good example is the Nintendo DS. Their dual touch screen setup has been ridiculed almost non-stop.  (not by everyone of course). But what new development that you initially ridiculed, or thought would suck, turned out good or even great?

Before the Xbox was released I thought it was silly to have a harddrive. It was unnecessary and would only make the xbox more expensive. But it turned out to be great. Never having to worry about space, the possibility to use your own music in games and no need to buy an extra memorycard that's prone to getting corrupted.

Don't scorn it till ya used it?.  I'm still skeptical, unless they use it right, it will still suck.

I would have to say the Game.com is one of these such developments. Unfortunately all the games cept solitaire suck but it does make a neat personal organizer and damn is that some good solitaire!..lol

most peripheral add ons expansion pak for 64 which caused no real difference actually justa bout everything for the 64. switch memory pak, which would sporatically delete and rumble pak, which ate up batteries. i  could go on but if you own a 64 you no for yourself.

I think that that DS developers, after a few bad games, will stop making games use the stylus, with it you can't even use all of the buttons because you have to hold the stylus in one hand!  I mean, look at Metroid Prime: Hunters.  The overhead map feature looks cool, but you have to tap the stylus on the screen to shoot or move.  No one can tell me that this game wont damage the DS after some use.  Worst screwup ever: Virtual Boy

By my understandgin the jury is still out on wether the touch screen sucks.
I hear from some peolpe it is much easier to use but i hear from others that it is harder to use becuase of the way you have to hold.

(I felt like bringing back a dead topic that had a good question.)

With the DS it all depends on the game. Games like Feel the Magic it's awesome but for Metriod it blows.

I disagree - for Metroid it's awesome.  It depends if you're using the screen right .  Are you using the Stylus, or the "thumb pad"?  Using the stylus for that game is a bad idea, but rocks witht the thumb pad.

I've been enjoying PDA games for years - the touch screen is the next evolutionary step.  Let's see how it's used in the games to come.

Gotta agree with OD.  The thumb pad is a lot better than the stylus on Metroid.  And, when people complain that you can't play Metroid if you're left-handed, they clearly didn't think for more than two seconds when they were trying to.  The four buttons on the right side of the screen serve the exact same purpose as the D-pad on the left side of the screen.  And, R & L perform the same function as well.

The dual screens, on the other hand, could be both awesome and sucky at the same time.  Most developers will use them to simply display a map.  OOOOOH that's cool.  Except not really.  Sure, it's convenient, but is it really worth it?  Half the time, you'll have to pause the game anyway just to look up or down at the other screen to see the map.

Okay, so I'm off on a tangent about sucky developments that still suck.  Hopefully in the future I'll be able to reply in this thread about why the dual screens became cool.
