Maybe a year ago, Rockstar released a downloadable GTA on their site for free.  Apparently, they released Wild Metal in the same fashion at some point.  And, just this week, they released GTA2 on their site for free as well.  Go to the link above to get these Rockstar classics for your PC.

Unfortunately it is timing out for me every time I try to get a game tonight.  They are probably getting a lot of traffic since they just recently released GTA2.

In wild metal you play a guy that runs around and shoots at everything.

I actually got through today on Wild Metal.  GTA2 was still too busy, but it looks like they may have different games on different servers now.  If any of you were interested when their servers were all down before, you may want to give it a shot again (though GTA2 still seems to be overloaded as of right now).

I'm getting 400 KB/sec too, so it's not like it will take you long if you are able to connect.

EDIT: GTA1 download is also working.

These downloads are nice. They did nice graphical and control overhauls on GTA1. I remember first playing GTA1 on pc when they put it out, and then bought the psx version. Holy shit. I was expecting SOMETHING close...
Rockstar is a great company. \m/ to them for putting out free games!

Did you get the GTA2 download to work finally or did you even try it?  I had trouble for the longest time, and would give it a shot myself right now, but I'm on dialup on somebody else's PC right now.
