Tomorrow, we officially kick off our annual RF Generation Community Donation Drive (though all donations today also count toward our total raised!).  Our goal this year is to raise at least $1500 by February 28, 2018. This money will be used to pay server costs and any additional funds will be put toward future hosting expenses and/or site improvements. We hope that you will consider contributing to keep RF Generation a free, fun, and useful site for yourself, other members, and those who haven't been fortunate enough to find us yet. We only ask that you donate what you can and even a small amount, like a few bucks, goes a long way and is very appreciated.

Donations are accepted via PayPal and you can donate through the following link:  http://www.rfgeneration.c...m/index.php?action=paypalPLEASE be sure to PM me (singlebanana) your RF Generation handle and the email address you used to donate (or include your screen name with your donation via PayPal) so that we can thank you on the front page and determine your number of raffle tickets; only your handle will be used and all donation amounts are private.

Speaking of raffle tickets, for those of you who donate at least $10, you will be entered into a raffle for some fantastic prize lots.  We currently have several items donated by some of our generous members, which can be found HERE.  We are still accepting donations for prize lots, so if you have any items to donate, please reach out to singlebanana via PM.  Rules for this raffle are listed below.

Thank you for your donations to the site and we hope that RF Generation will remain your #1 choice for tracking your collection for years to come!

2017 has been gone for nearly a month now.  Any decorations that were put out are (hopefully) gone and hidden away, messes are (mostly) cleaned up, and any weight gained is (not likely) history thanks to that new diet plan.  Probably don't want to get into those resolutions, though…

Despite all this, I've had a good amount of time to play with my Christmas gifts, two of which prompted me to swap my planned January article for this one.  And after all, 2017 was a good year for me, not just for the games, but for the controllers that were used to play them with.  So, please join me as I whittle away the time gushing about my favorite controllers of 2017.

This December we took some chumps to the mat during our annual Site Competition. Last month, we competed for fastest KO/TKO times and title belts in the classic Nintendo titles, Punch-Out! and Super Punch-Out!. Listen to our Playcast this month as hosts, Rich (singlebanana) and Shawn (GrayGhost81), are joined once again by special guest, RF Generation playthrough all-star, Doug (douglie007) to discuss both Punch-Out! titles and our Top 5 favorite playthroughs of 2017.  In this episode, the guys discuss their earliest memories of the Punch-Out! series, what they believe makes these "sports" titles so beloved by so many gamers, and ponder Shawn's possible abduction by alien lifeforms.  Do both Punch-Out!games still hold up today? And which game outside of our playthroughs did the guys enjoy playing the most in 2017? The answer to these questions and many more in this month's episode of the RF Generation Playcast. You won't want to miss it!

As always, we are happy to hear your thoughts on this game on our discussion page (linked below). We will respond to your comments and are always happy to discuss the game more. We hope you enjoy our show.  Please be sure to rate and write a review of the show on iTunes to help us increase our listenership. Thanks for the listen!

Late last year, once all of the annual 'Best of' lists started coming out for the games released in 2016, I lamented the fact that I had only played a paltry four new release titles from the year and thus had no opinion on many of the games that were being discussed.  So in 2017, I was determined to play more new release titles during the year in an effort to stay more up-to-date with all of the discussions going on for the latest and greatest games.  And just like with everything I do, I went insanely overboard and ended up playing nearly 30 new release titles this year.

Instead of doing a traditional Top 10 list of the games I played this year, I wanted to focus on a select few that I thought were particularly great but may unfortunately go unnoticed and slip under the radar of most people.  Most of these games really aren't what you would call obscure, but with the massive amount of great games released this year, it can be easy to forget about the ones that didn't get quite as much coverage.  These also aren't necessarily my favorite games of the year, as I am intentionally leaving out some of the more popular titles that were released.

This November we played through our first ever title on the original Game Boy. Hosts, Rich (singlebanana) and Shawn (GrayGhost81), are joined by special guest, RF Generation site member, and gray brick aficionado, MetalFRO (aka. The Game Boy Guru) to discuss the classic, action/adventure RPG, Final Fantasy Adventure.  In this episode, the guys discuss the gameplay, the weapons and items, the somewhat convoluted story, and the game's surprisingly complex music.  Did this game pass the classic gaming "sniff test" for all of the guys, or is it just another lackluster relic from days of yore? And which game series does it have more in common with, Final Fantasy or the Mana Chronicles? The answer to these questions and many more in this month's episode of the RF Generation Playcast. This October included some more back-to-back love for the PS4 as hosts, Rich (singlebanana) and Shawn (GrayGhost81), once again fired up their newly acquired systems and played through Supermassive Games interactive, survival horror title, Until Dawn.  In this episode, the guys discuss the gameplay, the story, the characters, the game's graphics and environments, and whether this game truly offers the player as much freedom of "choice" as it seems to advertise.  Which endings did the guys get and were they able to save the characters they liked most?  What did they think about the game's ending(s)?  Would they recommend this game to others?  And what's with their love of snarky women?  The answers to these questions and many more in this month's episode of the RF Generation Playcast. In this episode, we discuss the game's funky mechanics, its story, the art style, music, and its AI.  What are our host's thoughts on the game's ending? Was Shawn able to set aside his snuggly feels for his pets while creating a relationship with Trico? And is Rich the worst father ever for allowing his kids to watch him play this game? In this episode, we discuss the game's mechanics (or lack therefore), the story, the game's use of color and music, and what effect our individual playthroughs had on us.  What peculiar organ did Rich believe he was tracking towards?  How did Shawn's second playthrough compare to his original from years ago? Why would Ghandi have loved playing this game? And out of the five of us, who has the biggest scarf? Join RF Generation Playcast hosts, Rich (singlebanana) and Shawn (GrayGhost81), as the "Dynamic Duo" (R.I.P. Adam West) discuss one of Ninja Theory's early, third-person, action/adventure titles, Enslaved: Odyssey to the West. This month's Playcast flashes forward (...errr we kinda hope not) into dystopian America where humans are being "enslaved" by a mysterious source and our world has been taken over by blood-thirsty robots. Yeeeeeesh!  In this episode, we talk about the gameplay mechanics, some "despicable" and yummy characters, the game's soundtrack, and pose our thoughts on Enslaved's ending. Did this game's sometimes glitchy tendencies muck up what could have been a great title? Did Rich's modern game skill shortcomings prevent him from finishing the game? Join RF Generation Playcast hosts, Rich (singlebanana), Shawn (GrayGhost81), and long time RF Generation member and front page contributor, Addicted, as they discuss a popular, point-and-click PC title from 2002, Syberia. This month's Playcast travels through Old World, European communities inhabited by humans and marvelous, mechanical, masterpieces called automatons. In this month's podcast, we take an in-depth look at Syberia's fantastic narrative, beautiful, steampunk art style, and its stripped down game mechanics. This title has received praise from point-and-click enthusiasts, but how does it set on the palates of our fine, gaming connoisseurs? Did this game's messages find their way into the hearts and minds of our participants, or are they simply muddled due to other shortcomings? This month's Playcast ventures into a magnificent, limbo-like world of fantasy where a young lady struggles to get back to the world of the living and save her dying father. In this month's podcast, we take an in-depth look at Ubisoft's Child of Light. This title has received overwhelming praise from reviewers, but is it a meal fit for our finicky co-hosts' palates?
