Game developers and journalists descended upon Cologne, Germany for another Gamescom Conference. This event is similar to E3, but the spotlight is placed on upcoming games. This year, Microsoft, Sony and EA (which I was unable to watch due to their 4 a.m. EST stage time) highlighted their future line ups of games. Backlogs and wallets beware, there is a lot to be excited about just over the horizon.

Before we begin, I'd just like to comment that it literally took me 20 Minutes to think of a Headline for this entry. Now then...

Akiba's Trip: Undead and Undressed takes RPGs to a whole new level of weird. Ditching HP for CP (Clothing Points), you have to rip off an opponent's clothing to make them melt in the sunlight (They are Vampires, see...). That, or if they're just a normal person, they'll run away embarrassed. Anyway...this game is really good. It features a near-perfect recreation of Akihabara, Japan's "electronics mecca". However, it's best not to take it seriously, as the plot is mostly satirical. That being said though, it's a convenient excuse to be apathetic towards everything else. Yes, this game is that good.

Ridge Racer for the Vita was not exactly the pick for "Game of the Year" when it released. It depends WAY too much on Downloadable Content, as opposed to unlocking things through actually playing. If you can get past that though (I doubt many of us can), then you'll find a decent game here. I say decent because it also relies too much on Online Play, which I think is stupid. Overall, this game could have been so much better. Then again, Namco has been going down farther and farther these past few years.

Disgaea 4 for the Vita is a port of the PS3 Version. Well, actually, "port" is debatable, as it contains all the DLC and then some from the PS3 Version. Essentially, it's a "Complete" Version of Disgaea 4. It's a near-perfect game with only a few minor hiccups, and it's very well done. There are several references to previous games (and spin-offs), and being a Complete Version, it is packed to the brim and over with content. In this case, you truly get more than your money's worth. It's also easily accessible to newcomers, including a feature called the "Cheat Shop" and what-not.

Well, that's all for now. Also, for those looking forward to the first entry of my new Glove Gaming Series, it will probably be posted later today or tomorrow.

Following criticisms of their second game, Naughty Dog regrouped and started working on a new Crash followup. The third in the series would be their most ambitious yet. After two extremely successful games, Naughty Dog had a large budget to work with, but less than a year to build and finish the game. Like its predecessors, the game saw immense success in Japan, and dethroned Crash 2 as the most successful Western developed game in the country. It was the first non-Japanese game to earn the Platinum Prize for selling over 1 million copies in Japan alone.

CCAG 2014.  Cleveland's annual Classic Console and Arcade Gaming Show.

An event so enjoyed by my Beloved and I that we plan half a year in advance and spend the whole day getting the most out of it.  It is mainly a vendor event, but it also has arcade and pinball tables set to free play, old PCs and consoles set up for fun, tournaments and competitions for prizes, and a Chinese auction spread throughout the day.  We've been going for over a decade and have yet to be disappointed.

This year was particularly memorable for several reasons.  We nabbed five (!!) more NES games for our set, over 50 PS2, GC, and Xbox games for a buck apiece, several C64 and Bally Astrocade carts, more systems and parts for our Xbox LAN (yay original Halo LAN!) along with lots more goodies.  We got to reconnect and chat with several convention buddies, and we tried Colombian cuisine for the first time, which was absolutely delicious.

Also, for the first time I found myself in a pseudo-argument with a gentleman selling me a game.

The international success of the first Crash Bandicoot allowed Naughty Dog to get started on a sequel, and most of the team members remained intact for this transition. This let them build on the ideas from the first game and polish up problems, while adding new ideas. Sadly this created quite a few new problems. Despite all these new issues, Crash 2 was more successful than the first game, making it the best selling Western developed game in Japan when it was released. However, its international sales caused the game to fall a bit short of its predecessor in total sales.

So I have been a part of Rfgeneration since mid 2011 and I am still looking for the small scores thread.  Is there a thread named small scores?  Or do people just make a new post in the forums every single time they make a find?

Well Aside from the small scores thread that I hope to find one day.  I managed to come across my biggest gaming haul yet.  Surprisingly I did not have to resort to ebay for this haul.  I managed to find it on a gaming facebook page.  The seller mentioned there was 456 in total but I believe it is just over 460.  The collection as a whole is more common titles and is missing a lot of big name titles and Rare titles, however it does have a lot of excellent games and I am really excited that it is now apart of my collection.  I am slowly adding the games to my Rfgeneration collection over the next week or so.  Cheesy

But enough about my obvious excitement over this.  What is the biggest gaming haul you have made?   It does not necessarily have to be big in quantity per say.  It could be a score off all the Mega mans complete in box, or maybe you found a loose stadium events in the wild.   What is your prize possession and why?

It should be no surprise to anyone who is familiar writing that I am a fan of the Pokemon franchise. I've been personally playing the game since the North American releases back in the fall of 1998, and have bought every main series entry in the franchise and even went so far as to write three articles covering the first three generations of the series several years ago. Something I've always wanted to do, but have never been able to, is to get into the field of competitive Pokemon battling, now while this seems as simple as leveling a team of six Pokemon and running off to face an opponent, either online or in person, but when you get down to it, there's an entire world of depth available to those who are willing to look for it, and today, that's what we're here to talk about.

A long, long time ago, Redd used the Power Glove, and created his very own gaming series with it. One day, it broke, and he was upset. However, I, his long-time friend, made this prophecy, from the Dogs, to the Mini-Me (Yes, I am a fan of Goldmember). A New Glove would reveal itself, and our Champion, ReddMcKnight, would rise again. That time has finally come...

Behold...

THE REALITY GLOVE!!

That's right. I am finally returning to my insane, glove gaming adventures, with a new kind of glove on hand.

The estimated date of my Grand Return is sometime this August. Input, Feedback, and Suggestions are welcome. Specifically, should I do the old format and just describe how a game is played with it, or do Videos?

Get ready, for this time...no game is safe!

There's a current trend in the video games scene to abandon the strict conditions synonymous with large-scale major name development studios in favor of smaller teams that focus on projects they are highly passionate about. This one of the major shifts that's currently changing the way we look at RPGs.

Once role playing games were associated with developers like Square, Atlus, or BioWare, but now smaller teams, some the size of a household family, are making names for themselves. They are the new trailblazers who are defying today's RPG status quo. They are the passionate creators who work on projects that are labours of love. Whether the game is the result of artistic expression or love of the bygone golden era of RPGs, these new names in the gaming market are generating a lot of buzz.

The MechAssault games released on the original Xbox represent one of the last pushes of the BattleTech franchise towards mainstream popularity.  With all past successful games released on PC, it seems obvious that publisher Microsoft and developer Day 1 Studios (with some input by FASA Interactive) wanted a fresh reboot in the form of a new francise, one that would be playable only one Microsoft's new Xbox console system.  But would this even be possible in a market that seemingly didn't give a rip about Western-style robot sims?
