I always wondered what the site looks like from a phone. This here's what it looks like on my N-Gage QD:

I prolly shoulda let it load longer but that was after like 10 minutes. Shit loads -very- slow with this mobile internet crap. It's good for checking weather conditions and grabbin stuff from my wap server though.  Kinda reminds me of 14.4 days...heh

Well... this phone DOES have a WAP feature on it, though I've never used it.  Tried connecting to any website just then and it hangs on 'connecting to service', but then I'm not surprised, it's older than a bagful of old things.

I've got some pics of the site from my new Dell x50v Axim.  The first two are in the standard qvga resolution (320x240) and the last two are standard vga (640x480)

Hmm...  I wonder if there would be a way to create a mobile version of the site...

There is.  But don't ask me about it.   I just know that there is a way.

I think you have to use javascript to detect operating system, and then redirect to the appropriate page.  i.e if javascript returns windows CE, take them to a page that is only a certain size.

I worked with mobile stuff a little back in the day when everything was straight wap browser. Nowadays though most devices can read your everyday formats.

The problem isn't just page size, it's file size. Keep in mind that a lot of mobile internet options involve slow connections. If you're serious about doing it here's what I would do (if I was still doing this stuff):

Make a more text-only version of the main page with basic html menus. Eliminate the use of images as much as possible, specifically large ones. Maybe make it mobile.rfgeneration.com too. I think the message board could be used as is since there aren't many images, if there was a way to eliminate the main menu just for mobile view. Java menus take a pretty good bit to load from phones so don't go that route.
