not all of it, but a large amount. for the past few weeks I've been slowly going through my old cassette collection. over the years I've gotten CD's of a lot of them and age has reduced many to a squeeky mess. no point in keeping those. also dumping a lot of old mix tapes as well. some of these have been with me since grade school. yeaterday I filled a trash bag with the likes of Cheap Trick, Van Halen, the Eagles, Stevie Nicks, Billy Squier and the Kinks. a lot of the mix tapes had hand drawn covers which were funny to see again.

I know it's not that big a deal to dump these. most sqeaked like crazy or sounded just plain awful but I'm one to hang onto things. it was kind of like saying goodbye to an old friend.

I've actually gone out and purchased a lot of cassettes over the last few years because they are cheap as dirt.  I only play them once, though, to record them as MP3's, which I fix up a bit.  That way they don't deteriorate at all over time, they actually sound better after fixing them up, I can flip from song to song easily, and I can burn them to mix CD's if I want.  And, the RIAA can't come after me because I do own the original, and my files are created by yours truly.
