Still reading "It's Only a Movie".

Some interesting passages lately about how Hitchcock filmed his silent movies when he got started in such a way that the audience could feel that sound was implied in certain scenes.

Looking back on it and the Hitchcock films that I've seen, he did that a lot even when sound was available for him to use: facial expressions, smart editing, and creative cinematography all told the story as well or better than words can express in many of his films. A good example of this was "The Birds", when the lead actress is sitting on a school bench and in several cuts we see gradually more and more birds perching in the area behind her...and the only sound we hear is the background sounds of a teacher leading her class in a song, oblivious to the danger that's right outside their door...excellent filmmaking.

Mortal Fear by Greg Iles. I've read everything he's writen once I finish this one.

I've got a huge pile to choose from next. I've got a few biographies that look interesting, Lenny Bruce, John Lennon, Roman Polanski.

Read Hunter S. Thompson's The Rum Diary and have now moved on to Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas. F&L thus far is like reading a script of the movie.
