I'd do the Zelda bundle for a WiiU. The 2DS already looks uncomfortable.

I thought you were trolling us at first. I didn't believe either. That 2DS looks like a bad photoshop and particularly after Iwata very recently stated that price wasn't an issue I didnt see a cut coming. Very bizzare news on both fronts.

According to IGN the 2DS is for kids 7 and younger: (in case your child is prone to abusing his/her handhelds)

Don't forget about the Wind Waker HD Limited Edition. It comes with a Ganondorf figure. It is rumored to be Gamestop exclusive in the US.

Too bad that the Zelda bundle doesn't come with a physical copy of Wind Waker.  Zelda themed Wii U pad is definitely cool, though.

To me, the 2DS looks more comfortable than the 3DS and 3DS XL. On the 3DS' you are holding the device towards the bottom so if you are laying down, it can be top heavy.  The circle pad/d pad and buttons on the 2DS are closer to the top/middle.  The balance looks better.  The better balance comes at a price, though.  Not being able to flip it shut is kind of a deal breaker for me but, then again, this device wasn't designed for me.

The 2DS looks like a fake piece of hardware, but nope.  I'm pretty confused by it's design as well.  It almost looks like a Chinese knockoff.

I'd seriously consider that WiiU Zelda bundle if Wind Waker HD was a physical disc.  I may end up buying it anyway considering that Zelda/Nintendo limited consoles always end up being worth stupid prices after they sell out.

EDIT:  It looks like the 2DS comes out on the same day as Pokemon X/Y.  Nintendo is going to pull in a ton of new handheld sales in October.

When first saw the ad I thought it was fake.

By removing the z-axis the 2DS is technically (yay for math!) so the name is appropriate. If I had a say I'd call it the DS SP (Dual Screen Special) or 3DS Lite as the Collectorcast suggested. I'm sure parents will like it for their kids and the price ain't bad.

The Special Edition Zelda is pretty awesome! I'd get that in a heartbeat.

Nintendo's been marketing heavily to PAL regions lately, so that shouldn't surprise you.

Nice to see the Wii U finally getting a price cut. Wind Waker HD is nice too, but it by itself isn't going to get me to buy the console. Undecided

As for 2DS, why yet another iteration of an existing handheld? Couldn't I just buy a 3DS and turn the 3D off, and budabing, I have a 2DS WITH HINGES. But yeah, I can kinda see the marketing it to kids approach since kids could care less about 3D.

I'd totally do this for you man.

When I first caught glimpse of the 2DS this morning I thought it was a joke. Doing away with the 3D is actually something that doesn't bother me. Also I guess making it one piece makes it sturdier for younger kids not to destroy. I don't recall a Gameboy Color EVER breaking when I was young.

The Wii U bundle is smart, for a console that is failing. Bundling Wind Waker practically for free will definitely move some units.

Would you mind picking up a second collector's edition for me, Flee?

I'm doubtful Wind Waker HD will save the system, but we have been starving for a new Zelda game.

Like everyone else, I'm kind of at a loss on the 2DS. It looks way more inconvinient and designed like a scrapped prototype 3DS. I will assume one of the most common problems with the younger players is broken hinges. Kids can be pretty hard on their stuff.
