Smash Bros. has been $50 in my area for a few years. Wish I had held on to all those $20 copies I was selling and picking up for $5.

Buybacks has weird prices.  The one in my area wanted $80 for a Genesis 6-Pak cart and $3 for a LoZ gold cart.  I have no idea where they check their pricing.

And yeah, $30 for Conkers is a great deal

Hey now--

@Zag that's the best radio ever.  I'm jealous of how you keep finding all this cool random stuff

That radio is awesome.  I think Zag should be banned from posting on here.  I'm so jealous of all the crap he finds... and the prices, too!

But then I wouldn't have a decent online venue to show off (and gloat about) my latest awesome finds! Finds like this stack o' swag I dug up at the local Savers this morning for a little over $30:

- Super Sonic Gold plug-and-play game: hopefully this succeed in grabbing Raze's attention where the radio failed. You out there, bud? Come on, let us know you're all right, we're worried about ya.

- CIB Berenstain Bears School Day for Sega Pico

- Onyx Black DS Lite: yep, yet another one.

- Prima Ocarina of Time guide

- BradyGames Majora's Mask guide, no posters

- NES Game Atlas: has level/course maps for Super Mario 1-3, Zelda I & II, Mega Man I-III, DuckTales, and Chip 'n' Dale Rescue Rangers.

- Nintendo Power Star Wars Rogue Leader guide

But that's not all:

That's 48 back issues of Nintendo Power, the majority of the 139-196 run. Also included was a Pokemon Sapphire/Ruby poster removed from one issue, and several Pokemon CCG e-reader cards.

BTW the Nintendo Power and strategy guide scores was one of those right-place-at-the-right time situations. I headed to the book section after walking in, and saw the stocker filling the shelves. I glanced at the stocker's cart, and noticed a fat stack of strategy guides and NPs that had not yet been shelved. I let her know I was interested in several of the guides and all of the magazines, and she asked me if I'd like to check out the other stack of NP back issues that were still in the store room. Um... okay, sure.

All right, moving on. Now I know you're all bored to death by my endless Skylanders Trap Team scores, and you simply can't bear to see any more. Well that's just too bad, 'cuz you're gonna look at my latest grabs and you're gonna like it:

And if you think that's something, wait 'til ya see what I'll be picking up later this week!

Hey Zag what's the Skylander dude total up to?  Are there more Skylanders than Pokemon yet?

Leaving out the Series 2/3/4 versions of the same characters, the sidekicks/minis, and the lightcore versions, there are... hold on, lemme get my TI-84 here... BRB

Spyro's Adventure: 32

Giants: 8 new + 8 Giants

Swap Force: 16 new + 16 swappables

Trap Team: 18 new + 18 Trap masters (so far)

Which presently sums to 116 unique Skylanders. Or 162 if you want to include the 46 trappable villain helpers.

Sheesh... you just had to bring up Pokemon, didn't you? It doesn't help that each trapped villain has a quest that, when completed, causes him/her to evolve into a more powerful form. They actually use the term "evolve" to describe the transformation in the strat guide.

But, to answer your question: Numbers-wise, I seriously doubt the Skylander roster will ever approach the Pokemon guys, which is up to, what, almost 700 critters now? That's a pretty wide gap to bridge...

How many different combos can you make with the swap force characters? That is some calculating worthy of the TI-84 right there. Also, side question...is the series still centered around spyro and that storyline? Or did it become something new entirely after the first release?

Well, there are 16 swappables, each with 2 halves, so 16^2 = 16 * 16 = 256 combinations.

Skylanders is pretty much an ensemble piece now. Aside from the figures based around the latest gimmick-- in this case, the trap Masters-- no character hogs the spotlight. Spyro's pretty much a face in the ever-growing crowd now, albeit a more recognizable one than the others.

I was actually hoping they would introduce new versions of characters from previous Spyro continuities in subsequent games, but all that's been carried over is Cynder and Sparx the dragonfly as an adventure-pack magic item. Malefor, the primary antagonist in the Legend of Spyro continuity, is mentioned as part of Skylander-Cynder's back story, but has yet to appear in the Skylanders series. I'm guessing rights issues and other legal complications are the primary reasons why we haven't seen Elora or Hunter Skylander figures, or Ripto as an antagonist. Then again, it could just be that ActiVision, et. al., want the Skylanders universe to stand on its own, and not be too reliant on characters from previous Spyro continuities.

So what you're saying is there's soon gonna be a Skylanders rap similar to the Pokerap?

You're getting a little too ahead of yourself here; there's a very stringent formula you need to follow first. It all starts with the broadcasting of the animated series. At the end of the second season, the feature film based on the animated series is released, which has the Skylanders rap in the soundtrack. You'll hear parts of it in the middle of Act II as the good guys prepare for their biggest challenge in the movie. As you'd expect, the rap is cloyingly upbeat and chock-full of positive and inspirational lyrics to reflect the heroes' can-do, never-say-die attitude as they head into the climactic throwdown against Kaos and his overwhelming legion of minions. Then it plays in its entirety as the end of the final scene-- you know, the one where the heroes all share a hearty laugh at the primary comic-relief character's facepalm-worthy one-liner -- fades into the end credits roll.

Got all that? 'Cuz I'm not gonna repeat it.

Nighters.

Finally got some photos together for my Portland Retro Game Expo post.

First, the actual games and accessories. I did do a few pre-buys at a few stores along the way to the show. Might be my smallest game haul from the show in the few years i've gone. Getting harder to find affordable stuff I need.  Undecided

If you can't see the games:
Spoiler (hover to show)

I did end up with a LOT of manuals and some other paper items to complete some boxes. Even picked up a NOS Bible Buffet box, manual and question guide. Also grabbed some box protectors, not nearly enough but enough to force me to finally buy more.

And finally the nintendo powers. Getting close to finishing my "set" which i've limited it to up to issue 130. Picked up a few I didn't have and a few to replace those with condition issues.

Overall a good amount of stuff, kind of costly but quite a few items I needed.

Today's scores. Had a bag of games to trade in the back of my truck today. Maybe I should always have some with me wherever I go. Smiley

I have five PS3 games now, but still no system. I got some recommendations from the "powers that be" and so I'm trying to pick up titles if they are at a good price.
