I was going to check out the videogames in an electronics store, when a refrigerator caught my eye. Not just a refrigerator. This one was huge. It towered above me. And it had an lcd screen. That's right, This refrigerator had a 13" lcd screen in its door, so you could watch tv if you felt like standing in your kitching watching tv!

Who buys this stuff? What purpose does it serve? Am I out of touch with reality or is the refrigerator out of touch?

I can see that thing being marketed to sports fans so that they can go get their beer and salsa without missing a single play.  Sad, but true.

But if you open the door, you can't watch tv. It's on the outside. I guess it could come in handy if the fridge had a camera inside, so you could check if the light REALLY goes off after you've closed the door. I'll go to the same store tomorrow and get some info about it. I'm pretty curious what purpose they think it serves.

I can see this being marketed towards housewives.  Most housewives I know have a TV in thier kitchen so they can watch (shudder) soaps and talk shows.  This just simplifies things a bit.  It's sort of like having a TV in your car.  No one needs one, but it's cool to have none the less.

I think it has a connection to the internet.  At one point, companies promised smart fridges that would know when you were out of something, and then send an order to the grocer for more of  that item.  Of course, to do this you need both a fridge with internet and a gocer that will fulfil orders.

I was thinking about that as well, but it didn't mention anything about that. The specifications plate next to it only mentioned it has a screen, not what it can be used for.
