Episode 4 is live!

note: All episode chapters have been removed from Podomatic because apparently that feature is only supported by listeners on Apple devices. Using them was restricting certain listeners from being able to enjoy the show, as well as the chapters file taking up a significant chunk of limited Podomatic storage space. The time stamps are included below as well as in the upload description, but unfortunately you need to manually seek through the episode to find them now.

You guys went on that long for Suikoden? You shouldn't have!

Great listen, you guys.  Between the pangs of nostalgia from Suikoden and the "wish I would have played more" feelings from Shadow of the Colossus, you kept me listening the whole time.  Towards the end I was even looking at prices of the two titles on ebay (Shadow is pretty cheap and Suikoden can be bought loose for only $10).

Before I'd really no idea that the colossus were not actually named in the game documentation.  When I heard names on other podcasts I think I assumed that the names had been included in the strategy guide or something.

Thanks bomba! I guess it's to be expected that hearing others talking about games passionately will inspire one to go play those games. Both titles would be great additions to your collection should you decide to pull the trigger and buy them on ebay.

We didn't know that the Colossi had names either until we researched the game and read through the Team Ico wiki. The games are actually given to the Colossi by the fans, and thus, unofficial. Still, better than #1 or #3 or whatever.

Glad you enjoyed the episode. It shouldn't be a surprise to anyone that in September we'll be playing Suikoden II and Ico, and if you have either of those game we'd love to have your input.

Ico?  Oh, brother!  I got that game for Christmas in 2001 and enjoyed the experience immensely. I will definitely be joining the team in September.  I'm very excited!  I haven't touched the game in more than five years now!

In regards to the not losing enough health from big hits or long falls on SotC - I was always under the impression that Dormin imbued you with some small portion of his power in order to help you on your quest. He obviously wants you to succeed so it seemed natural to me that he would do what he could to level the playing field.

And I still say Eye-ko, no Eee-ko.

Thanks for the comments bomba. I actually finished listening to the podcast yesterday and even at 4.5 hours, I never felt that it drug or ever became uninteresting. I was actually shocked and very happy about it. Seems that these games were so good that the conversations were very heart-felt and passionate, and it really came off that way to me when I listened. A big thanks to our guests, who really have a lot of knowledge regarding these titles and helped immensely.

I like that Dormin theory Crabby. The game is highly supernatural in many regards, so not losing a lot of health seems to fit. However, I'd still prefer to lose more health to give the game added challenge. I feel like once I learned the controls and figured out the puzzle associate with each colossi, taking them down was a bit too easy at times.

These two games evidently hold special places in our guests' libraries and their passion comes through in the chat. It was a lot of fun talking with Bil about Shadow of the Colossus and he has a ton of love for the game.

I second that and also want to add that it was great discussing Suikoden with Sir Psycho. That guy knows a great deal about the game and the series and we are hoping to get him back to discuss Suikoden II.
