Remember when out parents always told us to have some quarters with us in case we need to call home at the pay phone or phonebooth?  I can't remember the last time I've seen either.  *SIGH*

Remember the mid-80s-to-early-90s marketing effort to label certain foods as "gourmet" to make them seem more high-end than they actually were? Talk about pretentious.

And it wasn't just people food that fell victim to this marketing strategy:




On a related note: do any of my fellow Vespuccian children of the 80s recall commercials for Johann Jacobs coffee? I only remember because they pronounced the brand name in its original German (Yo-hahn Yah-cubs).

I'm not sure if I want to see a 4th one, seeing as how it's been over 20 years since the last one came out.

But it's not like my concerns are gonna stop the effort. I mean, they've already done long-awaited sequels in recent years, like Top Gun, The Matrix, Bill & Ted, and Good Burger; it's highly doubtful they'll be stopping the trend any time soon.
