In a bag of modern LCD handhleds that Mrs.THX bought for £5 was....

R-Zone
X.P.G
extreme pocket game

a hand held which takes 4 AAA batteries, takes carts that are see through, and there is a pull out projection screen!

It's a bit crap to be honest LOL I mean it's stamped (c)1997, it plays like it was (c)1987!!!

Anyway, any info on this? I suspect it's worthless

It's one of the three R-Zone models.  Here in the states, the headgear was released first, then the Super Screen, and then the XPG.  Basically it's Tiger's first attempt at entering the handheld console market.  It takes cartridges, as you probably noticed.  All of the games are basically like Tiger LCD games from the late 80's/early 90's, but they're on cartridges.  Each cartridge has its own "screen," through which the image is projected onto the system's image surface (eyepiece on the headgear, transparent plastic screen on the Super Screen, etc.). (We might have some scans of these if you search for R-Zone with the image search.)  Since it's basically just an interface for interchangeable LCD games, some games came with snap-on overlays to add color and better "graphics."  The version you have of the console is probably the most practical one, but the headgear is just so tacky and cool that it's impossible to resist.

And, I hear chicks dig a guy wearing an R-Zone on his head.

Almost as much as one sporting the Captain N belt, wearing a power glove and packing the red zapper.

well, it's my opinion that the Xtreme Pocket Zone is a heap of junk.

Being a heap of junk does not mean it won't find a place in my permanent collection - hey just look at my Amstrad colllection........... LOL

and at least it gives me something to fire back at the smart-ass kids who work in Gamestation. They always try to catch me out "hey- have you got a........... " "have you heard of a .........................."

Today when I go in, I can say - hey I got an R-Zone XPG last week. Smiley
