Collection Suggestion
«

I recently found out that Digitpress ended their collection feature. Apparently it was a couple months ago, but I just didn't realize it. I used the feature as well as RFG's because it had the scarcity function built into it. So I was wondering if it is possible to add it to this site's collection tools.

Rarity and scarcity have been discussed before at RFGen. We currently don't have a system set up to rate games by rarity, nor do we have the staff to keep these ratings up to date. It may be considered again lfurther down the road as our database becomes more complete and as we gain more staff to help us upkeep it, but for the immediate future I don't think it would be feasible.

WOW they ended it! I would be pissed if I spent a lot of time entering games into my collection.

Ditto.
Also, StormTK421 "Eddie" hit the nail on the head with his answer.

I had no idea DP had taken down their collection feature. Bet there was alot of hate mail going around for those people that spent massive amounts of time entering their collection.
I really like the idea of rarity ratings...kinda puts an additional spin on the whole "collecting" idea.
But, where would we get the info for rarity to begin with? Atari Age has a nice guide for Atari games and DP did have a good one for everything else. Other than swipping the rarity guides from these two places (which they probably wouldn't like), I'm not sure how you'd go about researching rarities. Plus, there aren't that many price guides out there for games, except DP's books.
Just thinking out loud....

That's another good point. DP did have their guide that they sold, so to enter the rarity numbers into their system, they just grabbed them from the book. We don't have that convenience unfortunately. Our staff members would have to do all the research on the rarity of the games by hand, except that they wouldn't get paid. And as you said, I'm sure some people would accuse us of stealing rarity values from other guides.
It's something that I would really like to do, but I really don't see any easy way to maintain it.

I thought we could just get the rarity rating from DP's site, I didn't think of it as "stealing" though. I guess it does make sense though that DP wouldn't like us just using all their hard work.

I think NES_Rules has the right idea. But I think that RFG should contact DP and maybe they can cross promote sites.

I
think
it was linked to their old forums software, and when they upgraded it, both the blogs and collection tools were removed.

I took the time to enter my entire collection on DP about a year ago, but someone over there that is pretty high up, and a real asshole, pissed me off to the point where I no longer went over there... so I could care less about my collection stats being deleted. It does suck for the many people over there, that frequented the site, and kept their collection info updated, especially the ones with over 1,000 games.

Let's not make this a bash DP thread.
Just to let everyone know... the collection of the site is the cornerstone of our site... we would never do anything that would remove this feature except under the most dire of circumstances. So take solace in knowing that so long as the server doesn't royally screw anything up your collection stats are safe here, and we'll be even safer once take 2 of the mySQL driven collection system is launched.

Yeah, ditto. I was just venting... ,BUT IF THEY DON'T LIKE IT THEY CAN... whoops, there it goes again. I'll try to contain myself.
It's cool to know that our collections here are safe. I submited my collection into IGN, DP, 1UP, and Gamespot, but haven't even updated those since I discovered this place. This is definetly the best video game collectors site on the enterweb ... 4 shizzie.
