so yesterday I went to Ozzfest... what a blast!

http://www.ozzfest.com/

this years Ozzfest tour was free though they did charge $20 a car to park. the show I went to was at the DTE Energy Music Theater, or Pine Knob as it used to be called. it's an outdoor amphitheater.

I got there early so I managed to get a spot right in front of the stage  for the second stage acts. the first band was called "In This Moment". They have a female lead singer who can really sing AND scream. I thought they were very good. I'm interested in hearing more of their stuff.

Next up was "Daath", typical Cookie Monster growl metal. I missed the 3rd band "3 Inches Of Blood" cause I had to take a leak and then waited in line to get my free Ozzfest Summer Sampler CD.

I came back for "Nile" and "The Showdown". Nile looked to be the nerds turned metal gods and The Showdown looked like a bunch of kids. good stuff though.

"Chtonic" was a band from Taiwan who had Kiss makeup and a dude who played some strange violin looking thing. they had a nice looking girl on bass too. "Annkla" was unusual too. they has a second drummer that played congas. not what you nornally see in a metal band.

I missed most of Devil Driver and all of Behemoth because I had to gets me some nachos.

Hatebreed was awesome. they were the last of the second stage acts. being out front was interesting. I got swept up in a couple mosh pits, had several crowd surfers passed over my head and got puked on. it was a helluva time.

The mainstage part of the show was much calmer as i had seats in the pavillion. "Lordi" was pretty interesting. kind of a cross between Gwar and Kiss. Outrgaeous costumes and tongue in cheek lyrics just without all the flying fluids. "Static X" and "Lamb of God" were next. lots of the lawn met it's end during these sets. quite a sod war was being waged.

Ozzy was incredible. He was a tad of key but the old coot had loads of energy and was clearly having a ball. It's the first time I'd ever seen Ozzy. It was awesome hearing War Pigs and Paranoid live.

All in all it was a damn fine day. nearly 12 hours of non-stop metal. WOO HOO!!!

getting there early is a good idea. the first few bands had very short sets. the time between sets was very short too. easlily less than 5 minutes.

I saw Ozzfest back in 99 or 2000. Damn that was a good show. Main stage was Static X, Godsmack, Pantera then Ozzy/Black Sabbath. We said until Ozzy started. Pantera was awesome liver and if you get a chance go see Godsmack. They but on a great show.

I think I went in '01. Slipknot, Fear Factory and Sabbath were the main acts. We mainly went because of personal ties with American Head Charge (from here in Minnesota) and to see Slipknot.

There were a number of bands that I didn't care for, but all-in-all it was a fun experience. I got to meet most of Slipknot after the show, and a bunch of other rock stars during the course of the night.
