Amiga vs. PC DOS

The Amiga doesn't seem to get a great deal of love here, I think that's mostly because there are a lot of Americans here and the Amiga never really took off in America.
I've also heard that a lot of Americans were pc dos junkies so here's a little comparison vid done by a guy I know to let you see what you were/are missing

In Canada it was a sort of three way tie between DOS, the Amiga and the ST. Still plenty of people up here with Amigas and ST's sitting in closets or still hooked up. A lot of Amiga usergroups up here as well.
I bet I could find 2 Amiga 500's for every 386 still out there that works.

Ah well, your Canadians so you're ok! (in fact I've a mate who emigrated to Canada a little while back)
It's those pesky Americans that are to blame!

Indeed. I hear those crazy buggers preferred the NES over the Sega Master as well. But I won't hold that against them. Bad taste in gaming comes in many forms
That was a good vid. That was the first time i had seen the PC version of Barbarian, I didn't realize how crippled it was.

Aye, CGA only....absolutely hideous, and it came out the same year as the Amiga version..
And yes I heard that nasty rumour that they preferred the NES over the SMS as well.....
Don't tell me it was true??

I was one of those PC-DOS junkies from way back when. That is a great comparison video. I do admit that I do not have any direct knowledge of the Amiga systems (except the CDTV and CD32 consoles). I can't say that I remember Amiga computers being that well marketed back in the day in the US to be honest. I am astounded by the difference of graphical/audio output in the video (the Amiga is obviously superior).

Damn, the video doesn't work when I tried. I'll have to try again tomorrow.
Living in Australia Commodore was all the rage and the Master System was a big fan favourite over the NES with Alex Kidd in Miracle World being loved by all which helped when it was built-in.
Just check out these screens of a childhood favourite of mine for my proof of Amiga vs PC

Ducktales on dos was bad enough as it was, but I had to play it on a very old pc, that made everything go in slow motion and only had a black/white screen. I still liked it though.

It may have been, but I didn't watch it all the way to the end. The point was made after 2 games, the rest was just extra.

I only ever played Duck Tales on the C64 but have fond memories of it.

It wouldn't of been much of a challenge to make an ad better than Microsoft's either sadly.

I'll never understand how Commodore couldn't easily take the US market when their computers should practically sell them selves when compared like in that vid.

You know what the cruel irony of all this is?....
After the bankruptcy of Commodore, all their assets are seized and sold off to pay for their depts. The Commodore name I'm pretty sure has been brought and sold again a few times over since that tragic day, and now is used by a PC manufacturing company

The only market that Amiga's ruled here in the US was video editing. Most local cable companies used them to host programming guides (some small ones may still use them!!)
As for me I own a couple of 500's, a 1200, a 2000HD, a 2000, and a 2500. Then again I own a couple of Amstrad and Sinclair systems too so I am not a typical yankee
