Why are we not allowed to tell your girlfriend that we saw the glacier pic?
Does she not like our hills?

Nep - I gotta say you have a great eye.  Very good photos.  Cincinatti looks suspiciously like a smaller Edmonton.

Arrr - something has to be said about living in a place with a lot of history (ie. NOT North America).  Like Nep said, we got some cool stuff, but a church that's 700 years old (or older) is very cool.  Seems very peaceful in Elburg.

Cincinnati is actually twice the size of Edmonton, its just that Canadian cities actually have people living downtown, which makes the skyline look larger.

Correct me if I am wrong, but the metro population of Edmonton is around 1 million?
Metro Cincy is 2.2 million.  Cin-Day is 3.3 mil.

I always liked this shot. Althout it is not my own, I may get one similar to this the next time I am home.

It's definitely not the sort of thing you'd expect to find around the Cincinnati area, but it's very cool.  It took them a good 100 years or so to complete it.  I do't really remember when it was started, but it was finised long before I was born for sure.

The project began in 1894 and ended in 1915, incomplete. Though largely unfinished even today, the Cathedral is a monument which speaks of the faith and determination of the Bishop and the community. It is an art and architectural monument to be treasured for centuries by people everywhere.

There are some more great photos of this building here: http://www.covcathedral.com/bas2.htm

If you click on the images that pop up, you get a larger image, which is much nicer.

There are actually a surprising number of gorgeous churches in the area.  The Cathedral, the Plum Street Temple, the Basilica.

I thought I read that Cincinatti had a population of 300,000 or something.  Must not have been metro.

But the two do look pretty similar.  Downtown right on (or close to) the river valley.  Our newest sky scraper is like 20 years old,.

Yes, Cincinnati proper population is about 330K, but the metro is well over 2mil.  The city limits are very small, and the city/metro thing can be confusing.  For instance, I do not live in the city of Cincinnati, but I am only a 12 minute car ride from downtown, just using city streets.  There are people the live over 30 minutes away on the highway that are still part of the metro.

I hear ya on the age thing.  Our tallest was built in 1931, and there hasn't really been any construction since the boom of the 80's, with one exception.  Hopefully, if everything pans out, there will be a new tallest, for Cincinnati and the state of Ohio, in the next three years.  They are building phase I of it it right now, but are still contemplating a redesign of phase II, the tall part.

It is the one on the right.  Phase I is the short little one at the side.  The other building there is the Key Tower in Cleveland, Ohio's current tallest.

You did catch the fact that she was standing next to a wall painting, gazing into the "distance" as if there wasn't a wall six inches in front of her, right?  I assume you've seen that painting before.  It's near the ice cave in the Natural History Museum at the Union Terminal.

Yes, I know. I have been to the exhibit, and pretty much figured she was in the picture.  I was wondering why she would be worried about it.

She's camera shy, and wasn't too thrilled that I had her pose like that for that photo.  I think that she was beginning to realize how much of a dork I am.

Heinz plant, this entire area smells like ketchup *shudders*

The big castle looking thing is the cathedral of learning in Oakland. It is home to the University of Pittsburgh's culture rooms.

South Side (my neighborhood), taken from the Slopes:

And another shot of South Side

Rediculous staduim that the city didn't want and voted down. This bastard is one of many reasons the city is bankrupt. It is otherwise known as Heinz Field and home of the Pittsburgh Steelers.

North Side, where Heinz Field is located. This area is G-H-E-T-T-O. This is where you'll find the Mexican War Streets and a porno theater that is a historical landmark  Shocked

And shots of downtown Pittsburgh
