I was just wondering, where and how are these points being tallied? Is there a way to check how many points we have? Am I really stupid, and have just missed something? Help!!

Um, we'll have updates, the points tallying script has not been coded yet, and will be something that can't be run on a whim as it will probably be rather intensive.
