When adding variations you often have to reenter a lot of fields which normally do not change between variations. So these fields (beside Developer and Publisher which already are filled)  should be auto filled by the add variation script to speed up adding:
Genre, Subgenre, Players, Control Scheme, Media Format, Media Quantity, Media Size, Rating and Rating Descriptor

I would like to second Madir's post. I actually wanted to post a thread about this a while ago, but forgot it.

If variations are defined as games on the same system, then the media format will rarely change. Same goes for the control scheme and genre/subgenre. It would surprise me greatly to see a variation of a game suddenly being a different genre.

I'm all for this! It would make adding variations more convenient.

I agree with the above.  It would make filling out variation titles much quicker.

I know Shadow Kisuragi was already going to look into this, I'm not sure how far he got though. We've been keeping him pretty busy.

Done!

Though unfortunately, the same fix is not doing the same for Hardware Variations. I have no idea why, but there's fewer fields so it's probably not as big an issue.

Hardware has columns that are named differently, if that helps. >.<

I'm not seeing this working for staff links...  :'(
http://www.rfgeneration.c...addvar;ID=E-072-S-01120-A

This link works:
http://www.rfgeneration.c...addvar;ID=E-072-S-01120-A

EDIT: Well, that's fantastic. Grue's changes went into submitgamesfunctions.php, while the staff version (with the same exact code) lives in gamesfunctions.php. Grue, if you don't mind, could you replicate your changes into gamesfunctions.php for now? I'd do it, but I don't know if any other files need to change (doubt it, but being cautious).

It doesn't work for "Add Variation" on the game page too. I guess for the same reason?!?

Well that explains why I wasn't seeing the correct result on Hardware Variation pages... I was being sent to the staff version! Everything should work as it should now, staff or no.
