Wow, I actually learned something in school today.  While doing research for a paper I'm writing on ethanol fuel, I discovered the truck I've been driving for years is actually capable of running on E85.

Hi

'lo.

I've been ogling pictures of this camera I want. I had a play around with one in a camera shop yesterday and it seems the one for me. I have the money and all, but I'm just waiting for something to happen - I don't know what or why, though. Probably just more time to see if I get bored with the idea. Chances are, I'll only be bored after I buy it.

My truck can run on E85 as well.  However due to the high price of E85 and less miles per gallon its not worth it.

At £680+, it's a bit out of my budget. The Canon 400D is £400 and I can use my old lenses. What's the D80 like?

Hydrobond should know this sort of stuff...

The thing making me hold off buying it is that I bought a camcorder over a year ago and I haven't really used it much.

I had to look up what the Canon 400D was.  It must be called that in the European market, over here it is labeled Canon Rebel XTi.  It is the camera I have and I love it, highly recommended.  Since you already have lenses that will fit the body, try to look for one without a lens, as the kit lens is not worth purchasing.

Congrats on the new camera Den.  That is one nice camera.   What lens did you get with it?

Yup, Xti in America, Kiss in Japan, and 400D in Europe. I decided to buy it with the kit lens just because the smaller lens I already have is 35-80mm... about 55+ on a DSLR, so I thought it might be worth getting it for slightly wider angles. There wasn't a huge difference in price.

I found POTN, the Canon forum. There's a long thread there about the 400D/Xti. There are mixed feelings about the kit lens. Some say to avoid it like something that should be avoided, and others say while it isn't fantastic it does the job. It's probably not much worse than the lenses I've got anyway.

On a side note - When I went into the camera shop to play with one last week I was pushing the button halfway down to focus and take it out of "play" mode but nothing was happening. I heard a click while I was looking through the viewfinder... the assistant had changed the switch on the lens from MF to AF.  :embarassed: laugh The card in the camera only took 3 pictures before it was full. They had it for £430 with lens or £400 without. Then their CF cards were £65 for 2GB! Shocked I bought it online for £419.05 with the same card and the kit lens.

^The camera was possibly in RAW + JPEG mode, which will go through a memory card like something that goes through things very fast.

And I paid $40 for a 4 gig card, in a store.  They were really ripping you off at that store.

The kit lens isn't terrible, but I was disappointed when I got it because of the very limited range it had.  I was expecting better for a camera I paid so much for.  The lens I replaced it with is amazing though.  I highly recommend it.
